We requested the Milan section and a high quiet room. We got exactly this. The bed was very comfortable and air conditioning was quiet and worked well. Bathroom was fairly modern. The room was cleaned daily. A view of the lake would have been lovely but we chose not to pay extra for this. The only downside of the room was that there was only one plug socket to charge a phone - the other sockets were too narrow. No mini bar but there was a safe. Breakfast for couples and families as opposed to tour groups was served in a lovely section of the dining room with a view of the lake not far away, There was a good selection of croissants, cereals and cakes. In the main section of the restaurant you could get fresh fruit. Fruit juice and mineral water as well as a selection of hot drinks are available. A good selection of cheeses as well as egg. The staff were friendly and very attentive - empty dishes were whisked away discreetly. We did not have dinner at the hotel so unable to comment. The facility to use the Regina Palace swimming pool was a real plus point. A large pool in a beautiful setting , a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Towels were provided and we always managed to get a sun lounger. It was a quiet pool and relaxing to swim or to use the jacuzzi. You can enter from the side road through the gardens to get to the pool. The hotel is not the most modern of hotels with its colourful Morano glass chandeliers, porcelain figures, ornate lamps and retro keys (too heavy to carry away with you), but it definitely had almost everything you need for a relaxing stay. The Alibus to the airport stops exactly outside the hotel and the boats to the wonderful islands are opposite. Bus to lake Orta is also nearby almost opposite the hotel. We would also recommend the travel agents next to the Speranza hotel for the Centovalli train trip to Locarno. Lots of great restaurants and ice cream places in town and only 5-10 minutes from the supermarket.

Just arrived back this week from a lovely night 10 holiday booked through Tui in lake Maggiore at this hotel. The staff at the hotel are all excellent all very friendly and helpful. Reception staff especially Lorena on reception was especially helpful printing off bus and timetables and advising us things to do always cheerful and happy to help. Everyone speaks good English . One of our family had a problem with the air conditioning leaking in their room and it was swiftly dealt with and another room offered. We stayed in the Speranza part of the hotel , breakfast was served in a breakfast room each morning with a good choice of hot breakfast cold meats and cheese and very good cakes and pastry's and fruits and good cappuccinos . Barbara who often worked on the breakfast service was always cheerful friendly and quick to serve us drinks and look after us. We were on half board and had our evening meals in the Milan part of the hotel overlooking the lake. There was a set menu every night with numerous choices. The food was high quality everything we had was so good.there was a dessert trolley with many tempting desserts that made it difficult to choose from. The service was excellent we were looked after every night by the same waitresses and head waiter/manager, Natalyia and Cristina were exceptional. We used the pool at the sister hotel on a number of occasions Regina Palace another beautiful hotel with lovely gardens and pool area. The location of the hotel couldn't have been better very central for everything just around the corner from the main town and across the road from the boats and ferry station. The rooms were adequate and kept very clean the only things we missed were no kettle or fridge. The bathrooms were new and looked like they had just been refurbished. We would definitely choose this hotel again if staying in the area.

Ideal location in the center of the promenade of Stresa, very close to the embarkations for navigation on the lake, convenient free garage service a few steps from the hotel. Comfortable beds, great cleanliness of the rooms, perfect and quiet air conditioning. Breakfast with always fresh and varied products. Very good also the restaurant of the hotel, with very accurate dishes and prices in the norm, high level service masterfully directed by maitre sig. Carmelo. To return without a doubt.

Wonderful hotel, great location, professional employees, helpful and nice. We had several wishes to satisfy to make the holiday special (lake view room, second floor, Half Pension, swimming pool, parking) and we were satisfied in everything! With a pass from reception, you can enjoy the Regina Palace swimming pool (150 m walk from the hotel) surrounded by a beautiful, clean and relaxing park (they also provide you with a towel for the sunbed) and the garage. Remember that if you want air conditioning and activation of the fridge in the room you must request them at reception. A special mention to the kitchen: we had delicious breakfasts and tasty three-course dinners every night, accompanied by the sympathy of the waiting staff. If you like to be pampered, this is your hotel.

We have just returned from a week long break at the Milan au Lac (there are two hotels next to one another) and we cannot recommend the hotel and especially its staff highly enough.
The hotel itself is sat on the road opposite the bay, in the centre of Stresa. It is a traditional hotel with lovely ornate decorations and traditional decor. Although being in the centre, in the rooms it is very quiet and you won’t be disturbed at all by the boats in front of you or the square with shops and restaurants behind. Only thing we heard in our room was the church bells, waking us nicely at 8am ready for breakfast.
However, the main selling point of this wonderful little gem is its staff. Every single member of staff went above and beyond to make our holiday special. Reception staff were so friendly and happy to help with any inquiry. Cleaning staff were very efficient and everything was spotless during our stay, with fresh towels every day. It was the hotel restaurant staff who really won us over though! We stayed half board and we had a delicious breakfast and three course dinner every night. Raffa the restaurant manager was exceptional, he ensured (as a vegetarian) I could have a different tasty meal each night - giving me a wide range of options off of the set menu each time (he basically told me I could have what I wanted). Natalia our waitress was so kind and bubbly and made our dining experience a real pleasure every night. Also, Michele made us giggle with his joyful personality. My partner had food off of the set menu each night, which had around 5 starter 5 main course options which changed every day. We have been to lots of restaurants in Italy over the years and he said the food was delicious and the ravioli was some of the best he had ever had.
Some parts of the hotel are a little dated, and the building itself is very different from the grand Villa style hotels around the area. However, the experience we had I feel more than made up for the little tweaks I imagine the hotel will make in time. Additionally, even though it is missing a pool and outside grounds, you can get a pass from reception with allows you to use the Regina Palace facilities (which is a must in a heat wave).
Honestly had the most wonderful time at the Milan, and if you are unsure whether it is the right place for you then use this review to give you the sign you need to go ahead and book now!

Stayed at this authentic hotel (two hotels next to one another) We were placed in Milan Au Lac. Our room was at the back of the hotel, no lake view, despite the street noise below it was surprisingly quiet at night. The bells from the church next door were wonderful! Rooms were cleaned every day, fresh towels and plumped up my pillow each day (I’ll miss that!) Food was absolutely perfect! I am a very fussy vegetarian, however the restaurant manager Raffa Carmelo ensured that a meal was prepared for me each night, always fresh and delicious (thank you chef!) Nothing was any trouble for the staff. Thank you also to Natalia (creme caramel, panna cotta, cheese cake, you must say this in your sleep!) The dessert trolly was a real gem! Alona, Massimo and Sandra. The staff really are an asset to this beautiful hotel. Breakfast was continental, perfect for me, you can order a cappuccino if you wish. The hotel is literally steps away from the ferry terminal, TI and travel agent, just perfect. If you are looking for the perfect hotel on Lago Maggiore, look no further. Thank you all for making our holiday a memorable one!

Stayed for 2 nights while visiting Lago Maggiore and the surrounding area and it was an excellent base as the boats depart from the pier opposite and the hotel itself is quite charming in an old fashioned way. It's just a short 10 minute walk from the railway station.
Checkin was quick and handed a real room-key ( remember those !) to my room on the 3rd floor with a lovely vista of the lake. Bed was comfortable but the pillows were like pancakes and in need of replacing. The room itself was a good size, spotlessly clean (even under the bed) Loved the chandelier , it was beautiful. Wifi worked well and was free . Plenty of storage space in the wardrobe.
Bathroom was compact but well equipped and it had a tub , shower was decent and everything worked. Housekeeping starts early so remember to put your do not disturb sign on the door .
Breakfast was super, the scrambled eggs with bacon were perfect, hot and self served from the bain marie, just a shame there was no tomato or potato rosti to go with it. Excellent selection of breads, pastries, cereals, cheeses and cold meats as well as some rather lovely fruit tart ( homemade) and fresh fruit too . The coffee or tea order is taken by the well dressed wait staff ! The breakfast room is airy and on the street so you have a view of the lake and the world going past as you dine.
All of the staff were a delight, very friendly and helpful. The bar was well priced, do admire their collection of matchbooks on the wall, it's amazing and a throwback to an era of when you smoke anywhere.
The hotel while not modern ticks all the boxes if you are staying in the area, it's well positioned, the rooms are perfectly fine, breakfast is super and it's walking distance to all the shops and restaurants and the boat pier too - some of the other hotels are on the edge of town. A good choice if in Stresa.

Hotel located on the lakefront course a few steps from the center and with a garage service not far away included in the price. The rooms are a bit dated but clean to perfection and with adequate air conditioning. Very friendly staff and price overall appropriate to the period. Good choice of breakfast products but the lack of unpackaged jams, you can remedy it easily. My room was in the hotel next to the main one and the only comments concern the absence of a "real" shower and the breakfast room in my opinion too small for guests. As a councillor anyway

This hotel has a wonderful location, situated on the Stresa foreshore, immediately across from the ferry terminal and in the heart of the town piazza, making it perfect for access to most things. There were two in house options for dining - restaurant and bar/cafe. We booked a lake view room which was provided on the 6th floor. Unfortunately the lift only went to the 5th floor requiring us to haul our cases up two flights of stairs. The room was an adequate size. The furnishings were basic and a little dated. The bathroom was of a good floor size however the vanity was small, the lighting dim and you had to step up into a very narrow bath to shower, so not suitable for anyone unsteady on their feet or with limited mobility.
The most displeasing aspect of the room we stayed in was that while it had lovely lake views, the room backed onto the lift shaft resulting in continuous loud clunking from 6.30am to 11pm which was uncomfortable.
Overall a nice and convenient place to stay but when booking stipulate if you can’t negotiate stairs or a shower bath and if you want to be away from a lift.

This hotel is a lovely, old-world establishment. It is situated in the exquisitely beautiful lake front town of Stresa. The hotel is wonderfully situated with the lake in front of it. If you have an interest in antiques, you will love this hotel! They have the most beautiful murano glass chandeliers. Also in reception an interesting display of China including limoges. Carerra marble figures throughout as in many local buildings. The staff were very warm and attentive especially to our teenage children! Breakfast was sumptuous featuring lots of fresh fruit, cheeses, pastries etc. Coffee served in real silver pots by excellent waiting staff made the meal quite an event. I wanted our children to see how a quality hotel is run- not some characterless chain hotel- but instead an historic establishment whose staff clearly take pride in serving their customers with elegance, style and wonderful warmth! Thank you so much for a lovely break!
