We stayed at Excelsior Hotel Gallia for three days in mid August on our first stop in Europe from the states. We booked two standard rooms through AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) and got a great rate on the rooms and, even better, got a 290 EUR dining credit per room due to a deal that FHR was running for 3 night stays. The location was honestly perfect. Though it isn’t right in the city center technically, there are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops within walking distance and literally a 90 second walk from the beautiful Milano Centrale train station. They weren’t running the Maserati service at the time due to COVID, sadly, but you can get anywhere in the city easily via the metro. Also the Milan metro was incredibly easy to navigate since you can now enter simply by using a touchless credit card. This was our first time staying at a 5 star full service hotel, and we likely aren’t the typical customers (just some young people with extra savings wanting to experience some luxury during our Eurotrip). From the moment we arrived, we could really sense the difference in particularly the service we were going to receive that weekend. Luca checked us in at the front desk and acknowledged that we were celebrating my boyfriend’s birthday and new job and explained all of the FHR benefits to us and gave us a small tour of the main floor before escorting us to the restaurant while we waited for our room to be ready. He was incredibly friendly and helpful and managed to get our room ready by around 1pm, which was appreciated. Giada greeted us at the restaurant while we waited (and most days at breakfast), and she was always welcoming and friendly. I actually left my passport wallet at the restaurant before we checked into the room, and she thankfully kept it safe at hostess booth until I returned looking for it later. Our room was very nice, with modern but somewhat modest design, and the bathroom was beautiful. They left a fruit bowl and mineral waters in the room as a welcome amenity for booking with FHR and also surprised us with cute fruit tart with a birthday message for my boyfriend, which was very much appreciated! The friends in our party who arrived later received a better view with a balcony right outside the train station, but our room was bigger with a nicer closet and better bathroom. Either way, both rooms were really great considering they were both essentially standard rooms. Both rooms had a mini bar but we requested to have the bar cleaned out for use as a mini fridge. Housekeeping would provide turnover service each day and did a great job keeping the rooms clean and tidy. Somehow they even managed to take our mess of skin care products scattered about and organized them very nicely on the counter. We got a kick out of that! The free breakfast for two each morning that came as an FHR benefit was honestly my favorite thing ever. Definitely the best hotel breakfast we’d ever had and arguably the best breakfast we’ve had in any restaurant? They were not doing a buffet due to COVID, but allowed you to order anything and everything you could want from the menu, and even had some nice grab-and-go options that you could take back to the room with you. My favorites were the fresh squeezed orange juice, the Gallia breakfast, and the seasonal berries. The bacon tasted like prosciutto, the poached eggs were perfect, and the berries were so vibrant and fresh. The value of the FHR booking went really far with breakfast and honestly could keep you fed for most of the day. Vito served us most days at breakfast—probably the perfect person to serve you in the morning because he was quieter but always helpful with our orders and very friendly. Lucia also served us at breakfast and talked to us a bit about Milan and our upcoming travels and was nice enough to offer us waters to go before we left (this hotel offered you bottled water at any opportunity they could, which was so great). Daniel was another one of our servers and struck up a conversation asking where I was from because we are both Filipino. He was very sweet and his sense of humor kept us entertained the last morning of our stay! The 290 EUR dining credit per room was also more than enough to get our good share of drinks and dinner for two for two nights. The beef filet dinner was absolutely delicious and the rest of our party was very satisfied with everything we ordered. The last night, we had drinks and dinner in the bar area on the terrace outside and had the pleasure of being served by Francesco. He was absolutely hilarious and kept us laughing nonstop as he served us all night. We were grateful that they were taking 1 hour reservations for the absolutely stunning pool. We actually preferred this because it felt more private and we’re able to get some fun photo shoots in. Bernadetta (apologies if I misspelled) assisted us at the spa/pool/gym area each day and was probably one of our favorite people working at the hotel. She was just so sweet and even offered to let our party take a picture together in this cool hidden blue room in the spa area (the pictures looked great!) Last, but certainly not least, Ermanno assisted us at the front desk throughout most of our stay. He would always refer to us by name and would go out of his way to respond to any requests or questions that we had for him, and provided exceptional service. We tried our best to take down the names of all of the workers that we encountered more than once because there’s just too much to say (clearly) about how much they all contributed to our amazing experience! The hotel provided the perfect level of European hospitality, where they would give you as much space and privacy as you needed, but would bend over backwards to help us whenever we requested it. While we were initially a little hesitant to splurge on a nicer luxury stay during our trip, the value of our experience very much outweighed the amount we spent on the stay and would certainly do it again if given the opportunity. This was also our first time using the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts benefit and they made sure to treat us very nicely. We will certainly be back to stay at Excelsior Hotel Gallia, a Luxury Collection Hotel, whenever we return to Milan. It was the perfect start to my first trip to Europe, and really set the tone for the rest of our trip! Thank you again for such an amazing stay!

This was my first visit to Milan and my first stay at the Excelsior Hotel Gallia (July 7-11). It’s a beautiful 5-star hotel located across the street from the Milano Centrale station. I was in a Junior Suite and it was quite amazing. From the moment you walk up to the hotel you can tell this is a luxury property. Every aspect of this hotel maintained and looking fantastic and I enjoyed my suite. The suite had many closets even for those traveling with an extra suitcase. Housekeeping did a wonderful job every day as well. The décor of the hotel and rooms is upscale comfort. The air conditioning worked well and the bed amazingly comfortable. I had breakfast included in my rate and it was being served in the restaurant at the top of the hotel with wonderful views. The breakfast menu was extensive and the food is amazing. There is also a metro stop just outside the hotel so it was very easy to take the metro to any tourist attractions. If you prefer a more historic area, this hotel may not be for you but this is definitely a 5-star hotel top to bottom. There was nothing about my room or this property to find fault with. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here on my next visit!

Traveling with a big family is not one of the easiest tasks but this hotel makes it a wonderful stay. My office was in communication with the hotel and Mr. Marco Olivieri and Ms. Kristina excelled in their performance by arranging our rooms. We had an Atelier suite connected to an Excelsior room and a Signature suite adjacent to it. The rooms are luxurious and the bathroom is very spacious with Trussardi toiletries. Both suites had a guest toilet. The rooms even had balconies and it was os nice to be able to stand there and look at the Central station right opposite making this a convenient location. In spite of the location, there is a wonderful aura of calmness and serenity all over the hotel. Sadly the complimentary car to Duomo was not in service during our stay. Covid measures are observed strictly. Breakfast was another highlight and we loved having it outdoor on the terrace on the 7th floor. There are limited items on the buffet but you could order almost anything you want to from the menu which was scanned by a Q reader. The staff there were all efficient but Daniel was wonderful and such a helpful person. It is such things that make you overlook the other issues we faced and I will not hesitate to give this a 5 star!

Excellent service in a very good hotel. The hotel staff is friendly and careful. Services (gym, common areas, restaurant, internet connection) are very well managed. Stayed for 6 nights and had quite a strange experience. On the one hand, the staff were irrepressibly polite and always eager to help. On the other, there are clearly numerous issues with the property. During my stay, there were multiple power cuts, a defective AC, defective lighting, rust and muddy water flowing out of the tap, a flooded bathroom floor, a phone that kept beeping at 3am etc. All of this necessitated two room changes with a considerable amount of luggage. Room: The “smart” lighting system installed is incredibly daft. I woke up startled out of my wits at 2am one night when all the lights in the room suddenly blazed on while I was asleep. There was also a defective motion sensor in the bathroom that kept turning the light on and off while the bathroom was in use. It’s all well and good installing smart devices as long as they work. Aside from the lighting, the room was clean and the wifi was quick. I was working remotely and the internet speed was perfect for virtual meetings. Bathrooms: The bathrooms are modern, clean, and very spacious with a walk-in rain shower. Staff: While the staff at the property were extremely polite, they did not proactively follow up with me while the problems were occurring and strangely did not ask me about my experience when I was checking out. However, whenever I asked for assistance, I got it in spades. Overall, I have no complaints. The staff are a credit to the hotel. Location: Right next to the Milano Centrale train station from which you can access the rest of Europe. Note that the name of the station is misleading as the location is not exactly central and the area outside the station can get a bit sketchy at night. This is not the tourist hub of Milan and you do not have too many dining options within walking distance. On my next visit to Milan, I will probably pick a property that is much closer to the city center. Food: Ridiculously overpriced. A small glass of warm milk is 8 Euros. Unless they are sourcing the milk from a premium bred Jersey cow within the property premises, milk does not cost 8 Euros. Breakfast was strictly average, certainly not on par with luxury properties I have stayed at elsewhere. Given the situation with covid, buffet is no longer served which meant we had to order from an a la carte menu. Overall: If I take a step back from all the issues and think of the bigger picture, I genuinely enjoyed my stay at this hotel. This is a fine property that looks spectacular on the outside and is very elegant on the inside. P.S. Your opinion of the hotel will probably change depending on which side your room faces so I would strongly recommend asking for a room with a view of Milano Centrale.
