The Locanda is an unexpected oasis of peace and quiet in Milan’s frenetic city centre. The elegant 18th century building is in a pedestrian area dedicated to shopping.Once you arrive you can forget your car – you’re in the very heart of Milan, close to La Scala opera house, the Duomo, the Stock Exchange, and the famous designer stores on via Monte Napoleone and via della Spiga. The décor is the creation of architect Vittorio Locatelli, who loves combining refined warm pastel hues with rough, natural materials, following his fancy wherever it takes him. His intention was to furnish the Locanda so that people would feel they were at home. He designed four suggestive rooms, each with a beautiful flower-filled terrace, a rare occurrence in a city like Milan. The atmosphere throughout is pleasant and relaxed, and prompt personalised service is guaranteed.

ANTICA LOCANDA dei MERCANTI in Via San Tomaso 6 - 20121 Milano, Italy is perhaps one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had in a four-star hotel, although humbly it carries only three stars. It was recommended to me by a dear Milanese friend who said her relatives who came to visit Milan always stayed there. That was sufficient for me. And it was truly a family experience. Eri and Costantino were always there to help and support just like family or close friends. The room was much larger than normal, with high ceiling and ample seating area all beautifully decorated. The bathroom too, roomy, clean, and comfortable. The location was perfect, just away from the maddening crowds, yet only 10 minutes walk to the Duomo, Scala, and all of the best churches as well as the fabulous Galleria and Pasticceria Marchesie. The most mesmerising experience in Milan is of course to visit Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, only about 15 minutes walk from Antica Locanda. I recommend the hotel Very highly.

After traveling for 2 weeks through different cities in Italy, Antica Locanda was by far the nicest room we stayed in. We rented a suite and was so surprised when I walked in. It was beautiful in a simple kind of way, large room and beautiful views from the window. Within walking distance to the Duomo, yet on a quiet unassuming street. Staff was extremely helpful arranging transportation and probably anything else you could possibly need. Our breakfast was not included in the price, it was 15Euros pp. It was not elaborate, but everything was super fresh (also best cappuccino during our travels) and they can make eggs for you. I would definitely stay in the same room again and am looking to in the future. I was told they have 4 suites and that they are all as beautiful as the one I stayed in. They do have about 5-7 steps that you have to go up with luggage before you reach the elevator but they helped us with our luggage. Wish we had more time to stay in Milan and enjoy the beautifulAfter traveling for 2 weeks through different cities in Italy, Antica Locanda was by far the nicest room we stayed in. Perfect hotel in the heart of the old town of Milan. Beautiful old building with a tiny lift to take you to the first floor reception. Staff are wonderful, very helpful, kind and patient with excellent English.
Our room had a gorgeous terrace with sofa, tables and chairs, great for sitting out in the early morning or evening once the heat had abated a little. Our room had a huge bed, with quality linens and mattress/pillows, a large wardrobe with safe, good size desk and mirror and a large marble bathroom with an excellent shower. Plenty of towels and beautiful toiletries.
Breakfast was really excellent - croissants, pastries, toast, yoghurts, cereal, fruits, eggs cooked to order, great coffee, tea, juice, and fabulous homemade apple cake on our first morning.
The hotel is 5 mins walk from the Duomo and the Galleria, with plenty of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes in the neighbourhood. It is a quiet, very comfortable and welcoming place to stay in Milan, and I would very happily stay here again.

The hotel feels more as an Airbnb that a hotel, as it occupies several floors of a residential building. Located on a quiet side street near the center of town it offers a variety of rooms, some with kitchenettes.

We had a room with a terrace. The room itself was very small, even by European standards, there was a small space to hang a few items, but no place to put your clothes. You are going to be living out of your suitcase. The terrace is lovely, and when the weather was nice a great place to have coffee or drinks.

The beds were the hardest we encountered in Italy, it's like sleeping on a board. Everything hurt the next morning. Continental breakfast is included and you can order additional items at an extra charge.

The highlight of our stay was the service, which was prompt and excellent, especially considering there is basically one person at the "front desk" taking care of everything.

This was a hidden secret in the heart of Milan, yet quiet and unobtrusive. The reception staff were very welcoming and extremely helpful and knowledgable. We stayed for two nights in a suite and our friends had a room with a terrace (highly recommended). Everything was beautifully clean with comfortable king size beds and even a kitchenette with fridge, hob and sink. Difficult to find but that was a great advantage once you knew where it was. Close to the Duomo and the Galleria. Breakfasts were good ( and included in the price if booked through booking.com) with freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs, rolls and croissants. Fruit salad was an extra charge. We would definitely use this hotel again if we return to Milan.

15 rooms, out of which 4 are with terraces I believe. We had one with a terrace, and that really is great considering we’re very central on Milan. Room was not too big though, but big enough. Clean and tidy, bathroom big enough and beautiful. On terrace flowers and plants, fairly well protected from eyes, but obviously not from noise from the terraces next to it (if there’s someone talking). Mirrors on the room facing the bed. Friendly service. Breakfast is kinda buffet, but contains only a few things, omelett can be ordered without extra cost, but cheese/ham on your bun costs extra. Anyway, the breakfast served the purpose and the omelett was tasty.
Elevator is tiny, but fits one person with 2 luggages. Instructions needed to find the hotel, but by reading carefully the instructions, not hard to find, just believe in yourself. Checkout at 11:00, what happened to old school out by 12:00?
Malpensa express train station Cadorna at 10-15 min walking distance, takes you cheaply to airport in like 40mins (taxi 130eur).
Location is great, on Via Dante walking street near by shops and these outdoor cafes/restaurants. And Duomo and high end warehouse Rinascente very near. And the more affordable Corso Emmanuelle, also Castello Sforzesco, worth seeing that as well, fairly big collections in there. Metro stations very near.

So all in all, this small hotel was as pleasent as I was expecting. Try to have a room with the terrace.

We stayed in a second floor generously sized corner Suite (bed combined with a seating area and kitchenette and a separate en suite bathroom and hall area). This arrangement was fantastic and we loved opening the full height windows to hear the city life. Double glazing ensured a quiet night’s sleep. Only occasionally did we hear the early morning waste collection. The location is superb near to the Centre of Milan and Brera. The cleanliness and housekeeping was excellent - thank you to the people who did this and always with a smile. Also we enjoyed talking to the lovely front of house people who always helped us with tips and arrangements for private cars to the airport or in our case, to Como. Breakfast is simple but fresh with eggs cooked to order, muesli and fruit. Extra charcuterie and cheese is a small cost. Loved the special cake when it was available most mornings. Breakfast is in a pleasant room beside reception. We stayed twice, once for 9 nights and then again for a night on our way back home to Perth, Western Australia. Wonderful stay in a lovely hotel with great, friendly people - makes all the difference on holiday.

The hotel was a struggle to find but otherwise ok. Very Central location and easy to walk to tram or train. The lift is only for one person and luggage 😆
The front desk was kind and helpful. The room was ADORABLE!!!! Small but not tiny especially since we had a terrace the size of the room.
A/C worked great. Tiny bathroom but fine. Shower is narrow so no way to shave legs. Terrace was lovely and we had breakfast served there twice. The bed was board-like but so are the pillows so everything was supported and in the morning i was surprised I didn’t hurt. Sounds like a dream, right??? Ugh. The noise!!!!! 😔
Saturday night yelling from the Chinese restaurant under the terrace went until like 11p or 12am was tolerable, but the lady who was talking from somewhere went until 3am and it was so loud. Sunday… thought ok should be quieter. Yep until the early hours of the morning when the toddler who lives on the floor above was crying for an hour and all the rooms and hall lock with a click heard by all. Monday night also started ok, but the recycle truck took at least an hour starting at 0530 or 0600 to dump every bottle from all weekend and the noise was intolerable…. Followed by running foot steps above our head while a child ran around. I mean sure, they actually live there, but not so great when you are in vacation.

Wish i could pick it up and put it somewhere vacation worthy.

The Antica Locanda was our first stop on a 5 week trip
Milan was exciting and very worthwhile. This hotel is very central to all sites to walk or short taxi ride/metro
The hospitality at the hotel was outstanding
Eri welcomed us and for the next 4 days we felt so spoilt and special her warm nature and friendly personality
Nothing was too much
We like to stay in boutique hotels, small with the flavour of the city we are in, Antica Locanda fulfills all that and more. The breakfast is small in selection but more than enough. Rooms were very clean and all amenities available. Bed very comfortable and plenty of room for suitcases and clothes. We stayed on reception floor near the kitchen. We would stay here again and look forward to visiting Milan again soon

Stayed for four nights, our room was the loft studio which was a lovely large airy space. Bed was comfortable and spotlessly clean.. perfect location, so central yet very quiet. Staff are very helpful. If your looking for good food stay away from the Main Street, restaurants are overpriced and offer a poor standard. Our lunch favourites were DonCola In Brera and Zog in Navigli. After eating sub standard, overpriced Italian food at Signorvino we enjoyed excellent food at Neo Kisha a small Japanese restaurant near the castle .
