The staff here are excellent. Every time we passed reception we were greeted - and always with a smile.
Violet was very helpful when I rang to see if they had a vacancy. As she promised, we got a room at the back. It was big, with two French windows out onto a large balcony. It was very quiet all three nights we were there.
The room had a fridge (not cold, though) and a safe.
The bathroom was spotlessly clean, though I found the shower cubicle a bit tight.
Breakfast was good.
The hotel is close to Porta Susa mainline and metro stations. Exit D comes up onto the street almost at the hotel door.
There are a number of bars and restaurants nearby as well as a small supermarket.
We went a bit further afield, to Bakery, for delicious pizza.
We would definitely return.
It's right to next to Porta Susa railway station. There are four exits from the station. Look for exit "D" leading to Corso Inghiterra (the road the hotel is on) and when you arrive at the top of the steps (or escalator) you will be a few yards from the hotel.
At the opposite side of Porta Susa station is a Metro and Tram stop with services into the centre of Turin. Or you could walk it in about 25-30 minutes.
Check in went smoothly with a receptionist that spoke good English. We had a corner room overlooking a busy main road and a side road. The room was well insulated and the noise level was very low.
The room was very clean, large and well maintained. However the free Wi-Fi was very very slow (almost non-existant).
Breakfast was served in a cafe / coffee shop next door. Head through a side door near reception and show your room card and help yourself to croissants, cakes, cereals, ham, cheese and yoghurts.
If in Turin we would stay here again.
Unfortunately, there are three problems: the bed, the shower, and the wardrobe. The wardrobe is altogether superfluous and not fit for purpose. The luggage stand is directly in front of the wardrobe, so if you have a suitcase on the shelf, it blocks any meaningful access to the wardrobe's interior; this is idiotic. There are also only two hotel hangers which I struggled to access, so I gave up.
The bed is hard as a rock, and if I weren't so exhausted from traipsing around the city, I would have found it hard to get any sleep.
The worst feature of the room is the shower. The flow rate is slow and the jets are weak, but the small interior of the shower enclosure is awful. It was just big enough to stand in; it was impossible to move around, bend over, and sponge myself down as it was too small. My motions were also repeatedly deactivating the shower handle. I had no choice but to sponge myself outside the shower enclosure over the bidet and then re-enter the compartment to rinse off. It was utterly impracticable, and if I had known about this, there is no way I would have booked this accommodation.
The provision of towels and shower gel is entirely insufficient. You get one towel, a tiny bottle of dual shower gel, and shampoo. Having to ask for additional towels and shower gel is not something I want to do, and an adequate amount should be provided de rigueur.
Housekeeping is only performed at a specific and narrow time window of the afternoon. One day, the receptionist telephoned me, asking if I wanted housekeeping. As I was eating, I asked if they could do it in half an hour. Not possible; unbelievable!
Reception are very friendly - spoke excellent English - and check in was efficient. The rooms were kind of traditional - spacey with sturdy wooden furniture - wooden floors- very clean with a large toilet / bathroom.
Breakfast - served in an adjacent coffee shop (could actually be part of the hotel - it's through an internal door - anyway - it was excellent. Certainly worth the extra to include it.
Downside ? Two ways in which a good hotel could be an ideal hotel.
1. Internet. The wifi was excellent - but administered in a very odd way. First get a code - well a printout for a code and a chit to sign for a code. The code lasts for 24 hrs. So if you are staying for 4 days and you arrived late one evening then 24hrs later you get disconnected - and have to go downstairs to get another code (sign for another code). 2 People with a smartphone each, an IPad and a laptop - that 4 codes to sign for - 4 times - that's 16 printouts, 16 signatures, different usernames each time and different passwords. You could sit in McDonalds and get it free all the time - why so difficult ??
2. Aircon. Seems to be controlled centrally by reception (even though there is a controller in the room) - and our last night was absolutely roasting - really found it difficult to sleep.....
These are a shame as the Hotel - the breakfast - the people and the location are spot on. Overall it was ok but frustrating because of the wifi and Air Con.
I left an expensive camera in the room and the staff facilitated it's shipment back to New York! Very kind and helpful. Contrary to the other reviews, the wifi worked on all of our devices.
My only gripe is that we had to insist that they keep the AC on overnight. You can't control it in the room.
Also the free WiFi is of no use as it never really worked.
The location is great, very near porta Susa station and the centre. Amazing ice cream parlour in the next building.
Free wi-fi was available for the duration of our stay.
Breakfast was in the café next door (enter directly from Reception), with excellent coffee and a very good continental buffet with a wide range of choices.
Every member of staff we encountered was polite, friendly and helpful.
The hotel is right next to Torino Porta Susa railway station, which is served by the new Italo high speed trains. People with large luggage or mobility problems should note that there are a few stairs from the street to Reception. Construction work at the station during our stay resulted in some station exits being blocked; this was not a huge problem, it just meant there was a slightly longer walk between the station and the hotel. We did not notice any construction noise while in the hotel, and our sleep was not affected.
Central Turin and the Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama and Piazza Castello are a pleasant and easy 20-30 minute walk from the hotel, along Via Garibaldi; alternatively, there are buses, trams and the Metro.
For a 3-star property, we thought Torino Centro was excellent value at approx. EUR 80 per night including breakfast for two.
