The Diplomatic hotel is one of the most prestigious hotels in Turin, located in the historic centre of the city, a few metres from the Porta Susa railway station, the main hub of high-speed rail transit between France and Italy. However you choose to get to the Diplomatic, the hotel is convenient due to its proximity to the Torino Caselle "Sandro Pertini" airport terminal, to the new underground line which takes you to the "Lingotto Fiere" Congress Centre in a few minutes, to the Polytechnic University of Turin, the Olympic Stadium and the new Juventus stadium.Strolling under the beautiful and historic arcades in Turin you reach the city’s most beautiful squares (Piazza Castello, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, Piazza San Carlo, Piazza Carlo Felice), the main places of “Turin nightlife” (the Roman Quarter (Quadrilatero Romano), the Murazzi, the Banks of the River Po, the Dora Docks, the Valentino Park), the most important museums and cathedrals (the Egyptian Museum, The Museum of Cinema, the OGR Officine Grandi Riparazioni, the Mole Antonelliana, the Chapel of the Shroud, the churches of Gran Madre and Maria Ausiliatrice).

Hotel Diplomatic receives mixed feedback from its guests. While the establishment is lauded for its prime location near attractions and public transport, some guests have called out maintenance issues in the rooms, including varying amenities and inconsistent air conditioning and water pressure. The staff's friendliness and helpfulness generally shine, though there have been occasional service hiccups. The atmosphere is considered comfortable, and cleanliness is a strong point, yet the hotel's four-star rating is questioned by guests expecting more in terms of service and room features.

Very conveniently located a few meters from the Porta Susa Train Station, in the center of the city, this hotel offers an excellent quality for the price. Nice staff, comfort bed, very silent room with all the usual amenities. Highly recommended!

The hotel has a convenient location if you're using Porta Susa railway station, just a couple of minutes' walk away. Also only 10 minutes or so from the centre of the city. Our room was fine.

But just to echo some other recent comments, the breakfast room was severely understaffed, and given the current Covid situation it was surprising that they have kept the buffet going, as not everyone can be relied upon to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. There were just two members of staff working at the buffet, and they are completely overworked. They can't keep up with replenishing food, clearing tables, and reminding people to wear face masks at the buffet, despite doing their very best to do so.

Also one pair of guests saw fit to bring a dog to the buffet. It wasn't a guide or assistance dog as far as I could see. Apologies if this is acceptable in Italy, but I haven't seen this anywhere before in Italy (or anywhere else). I know a few guests were uncomfortable with this.

We mentioned the breakfast problems twice at reception but nothing seemed to be done.

The Hotel Diplomatic was a very convenient 3 minute walk (a few blocks) from the Torino Porta Susa train station and only a 5 minute walk (a few blocks) from the Ospedale Oftalmico). We were lucky to get a 5th floor corner room with sunny views of the front street and side street with a view of the beautiful garden/piazza of the building next door. Our salon was very clean and comforable with: a queen sized bed; independent heating/temperature control; mini-fridge; wide-screen 30" tv; hanging closet with shelves; electric shutters; private safe; and bedside lighting controls. The bathroom was clean with: daily fresh towels; daily free toiletries; (small) glass walled shower with adequate hot water and water pressure. The staff was courteous, and spoke English (we are Californians). The bar/lounge was comfortable. The Breakfast was self-service buffet with: eggs, bacon & mini wieners; brioche; sliced bread/toast; cereals & milk; juices, cold meats & cheeses; various fruits; waters (frizzante & naturale); and various machine caffe and mokka.

We spent 4 nights in a family room and we enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, quite and the breakfast was ok. The check-in and checkout was straightforward and without any delay. They offered us a 10% discount voucher to restaurants in the neighbourhood that we found very good. Overall a pleasant stay

We chose the Hotel Diplomatic because of its proximity to Turin Porta Susa station and some of the beautiful sights of the City. These did not disappoint, and the extensive elegant arcades made it easy to walk around in the shade of the August sun.
However the hotel itself offered a series of disappointments: on check-in we were given a key (not a key card!) which would not open our allocated room; the alternative room we were offered had no soap, a broken toilet seat and no obvious socket into which to plug the (provided) kettle; it had English Breakfast tea but no milk. On our complaint these things were partially fixed but we never got milk and had to crawl on the floor to plug in the kettle.
After a comfortable night’s sleep breakfast was also a disappointment; little fresh fruit; canned peaches (in a Mediterranean country in the summer!) no yoghurt etc .
On the positive side the staff were friendly, but could do little to improve the guest experience with the tools at their disposal. We would not stay there again. .

Our room was very nice, clean and very comfortable. There were no towels when we arrived, or coffee and tea sachets, but these were quickly supplied when we rang reception. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Our room was well sound-proofed agains traffic outside.
The hotel is less than 10 miutes walk to railway station. This was very convenient for us since we were travelling by train and one of the main reasons for choosing it. But it is also within easy walking diatance of the town centre, so for us the situation was perfect.
The only quibble I would have is that i am coeliac and must have a gluten free diet. The hotel provided some gluiten free products, but there was very little choice and no bread although GF bread is readily available these days and Schar, the GF brand they were using provides a wide variety including breads and rolls. They could have been a bit more imaginative in what they chose to provide.

This was our third visit to this hotel and as always we enjoyed our stay. Upon arrival our allocated room was not very good but it was changed quickly and easily by the front desk staff. The replacement room was good and modern. The only complaint we have is that the shower cubicle is far too small. Large people will have great difficulty getting in and out let alone actually washing.
Additionally the hotels location is good, being close the Porta Susa railway station. No need for a taxi.
The restaurant across the road is recommended as is the Sushi restaurant just around the corner at the top of the Via Cernaia.
Turin is nice city with not too many tourists and wealth of excellent places to see and places to eat at.
We have been visiting Turin for 16 years as our son lives here - we love it.
Enjoy your stay.

Stayed here for one night on a layover. Loved Turin but hotel disappointed - had the air of the 1970s, lacklustre service and rooms were very sad looking. Floor was damaged, toilet not entirely clean and there was no hand soap provided. Three small bottles of water were provided for three people. Definitely not a four star experience.

Old hotel that lives on old merits.

Would have rated it a three but considering what you get for the price I downgrade it to a two.

Plus would be for Location that is pretty good, close to a train station, metro and a 15 min walk from the center. Breakfast was pretty good and a decent selection for being an Italy.

However otherwise not much to brag about. Very dated reception area and that isn't looking like the classy old just kind of old. Had to wait for a while to check in as receptionist was busy with people calling the hotel and I assume only one on staff at that time. Parking requested before via email and confirmed but on arrival I was informed that garage was now fully booked so I had to park at the underground train station parking 200 m away. The heating/ AC didn't work in the room, however with the time of year there was no need for it for our weekend stay so didn't cause any issue. The bidet was loose and a really poor attempt for repair had been made. Water pressure was very low and bed should have had a thin comfort mattress on, not sleeping straight on the springs, not the best sleep....

It just feels like a general lack of attention to details and very old.

If it was half the price I payed for a weekend it would got a 3 star rating but for the general price of this hotel I'm sure you can so better in Turin, I would not choose to come back.

We had a few minor problems. The minibar seemed to have been disconnected from the power and when we reported it nothing was done. We eventually solved the problem ourselves but remember, no one wants to interfere with fixtures and fittings in a hotel. The toilet door unbelievably locked itself but the young man on reception resolved the issue quickly and efficiently with a credit card (yes) at 6.30 in the morning. Otherwise the cleanliness was perfect, and the bed, as I said in the review, was extremely comfortable.

There are a lot of shops near by, also some stores with food, but no big supermarket. The hotel is in the centre of the town, everything is within walking distance.

Any typical Italian reasonably priced quaint restaurants local to Hotel Diplomatic?
Answer from Amy R
Turin, Italy38 contributions8 helpful votes
The hotel does have a restaurant downstairs but we only had breakfast at it. For dinner, we walked about 10-15 minutes from the hotel to La Capannina, which had lots of pizza and pasta and was filled with locals. I thought it was reasonably priced (pizza was between 6 and 8 euro, if I'm remembering correctly) and everyone inside was cleaning their plates so I imagine everything was good! We opted for a pizza and it was delicious. I'd definitely recommend walking over there!
