Great location near the main railway station and all sights. Reception staff were very helpful with advising us on getting around. The room was very nice and breakfast was a typical European style - cold meats and cheeses and usual eggs etc. I could recommend this hotel for a friendly experience for business or sightseeing and very convenient if you are travelling to other Italian cities by train.

The staff at check-in was exceptionally friendly. He gave us some tips on how to get around Turin and was very helpful with any requests we had.
We had the deluxe room with jacuzzi. The jacuzzi was huge, great and relaxing. The room was clean and smelled really nice upon arrival. We loved the interior and had a nice view on the trainstation from our room. The lamps had a strange design though. We thought it was dirty but after looking closely it was like this on purpose.
The breakfast area was really quiet. There were only 2 other people eating at the same time we did and it was in primetime. Breakfast options are good. The pancakes were really delicious. The waiter at breakfast was really hard working and active.
He did not speak english, but he tried his best.
Location cant be better. Its right next to the trainstation Porta Nuova, when you take the eastern exit and its close to the centre. Everything is walkable.

There were some homeless people nearby the hotel. In the night i would not prefer walking here alone, however i never felt unsafe.
The Jacuzzi tap was a bit in the way, when your lying in the tub with 2 people and the drainage of the water was slow.
Also keep in mind that when you book the jacuzzi room, the shower has to be handheld when showering.

This was a very good hotel, located centrally in Turin and right outside the Porta Nuova train station. Very clean and spacious rooms including a big bathroom with heating rack for towels. The shower stall was a bit small and we couldn't work out how to switch on the work desk table lamp but otherwise everything was great. There is also a balcony! Breakfast was buffet and continental style, delicious, very friendly waitress who makes good coffee. Very good value at 8 Euro per person. We also had a friendly reception staff member, extremely helpful and welcoming. My first time staying at a Best Western hotel and will definitely recommend it. Great stay!

Hotel is very well located for the bus to/from the airport, which leaves from nearby Piazza Carlo Felice. It's a short walk to the centre of Turin, and to the Museo Egizio and Palazzo Reale.
The hotel is clean and comfortable, our room was a reasonable size with ample storage space. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. We had a quiet room at the back, with a small balcony overlooking other buildings. The staff were all pleasant, friendly and helpful, and spoke English if that is required. The breakfast room is on the 5th floor, with the usual buffet and plenty of choice.
The area immediately outside the hotel is quite run-down, with drug-users and homeless people around, but no-one bothered us. I noticed the hotel reception staff were monitoring CCTV cameras which showed views of the street outside.

A good, central and affordable hotel. The staff at the reception desk is very helpful. The breakfast is OK, not a lot of choice muy more than a basic Italian breakfast. Good connections by bus every 15 minutes, leaving from square across hotel.

The Crystal Paace is a well restored building and the facilities are, with one important exception, those that you might expect from a four star hotel. Staff are pleasant and helpful even when they are struggling in a second or third langauge. The breakfast is a standard buffet and, supplemented by freshly made coffee to order, is good.

The problem is the location. The red light district operates very close to the building and on the Friday evening we stayed there, there were groups of men drinking in the street. None of this is threatening, but it is a little offputting. Potentially more of a problem is the non-functioning air conditioning now that it is getting warmer. You could open the window but across the road extensive building work is underway, I think as part of the new Metro system. You can expect noise and some dust from early morning to mid evening.

The price, if you book online, is very good and includes breakfast. So, if you don't mind a warm room, this is a good place to stay. You can avoid running the gauntlet of the arcade at night by getting a cab to the door which was about 10 euros when we took one.

Turin is a great city, but beware pickpockets either in front of the station or further out of the centre, we had to deal with two in quick succession in Pizzale della Republicca

I stayed there for two nights on a weekend in early October. The hotel is well remodeled and in a convenient yet dodgy neighborhood (across from the main train station). As is the case with most Italian 3 and 4 start hotels, at times, there are serious glitches with service and amenities. In my case, the phone did not dial out, so I ended up going to the lobby to use the lobby phone every time I had to make business phone calls! or the vent in the bathroom wouldn't shutoff, in my well remodeled suite. Informing the hotel staff did little to remedy the problems, as they passed the buck to the next shift! However, by far the most problematic aspect of the hotel is the crime ridden neighborhood it is in. On every occasion, at night or day time, I would see sleazy street prostitutes within a few meters of the hotel entrance, as well as shady characters that seemed to be involved with Drug dealing or black market trade. Hotel did not employ/poss security staff, nor security cameras, inside or outside the lobby door. Some of these characters (pick pockets, thieves), would even patrol the area for unaware victims which may include hotel guests. In this occasion the victim was I, as my briefcase (containing laptop, passport, cell phone, wallet) was stolen while I was on the phone in the hotel lobby at the time of checkout. The briefcase was less than 3 meters behind me resting on top of my luggage, when two men came in the hotel asking for rates and inconspicuously took off with my briefcase, while I was talking on the phone. Needless to say that hotel staff and management did little to alleviate my stress. To date, I have not received a call or a letter from them, at least expressing their regret for the incident in their hotel lobby, of all places! The only action that the Hotel staff took, was to call the police for me! They also informed me that either cameras are not working or that there are no cameras in the lobby /entrance area!!! All in all, I would pay extra and stay elsewhere, even though, the hotel at first seems to be a good value. If you are traveling with family (children), do look for alternatives before you decide to stay in this hotel.

Response from vianizza_11, Sales & Duty Manager at Best Western Crystal Palace Hotel

Dear Sir, with reference to your comment, first thing I would like to express our regret for what happened. In 4 years’ activity we do not have registered any theft. Though understanding your reasons it seems to me compulsory to give an answer to what by you written. Referring to the absence of surveillance cameras I would like to inform you that in our Country we have a severe law in these matters, the privacy law forbids recording any area without the authorization of the persons recorded. As you can surely understand it would be impossible to ask every guest that enters in the hotel to sign such authorization. With reference to the external area, a video surveillance circuit directly connected with the police; as far as I know you have been informed of this by the receptionist. With reference to the neighborhood the hotel is in I would like to clarify, to you and to the people that will read your comment, that the building is located at 100 meters from the Central Train Station (Torino Porta Nuova), which is one of the most crowed train stations in our Country. The hotel is located few steps from the historic centre and we cannot check all the people that is outside the building, as this task is responsibility of the police. We would prefer to be judged for the service we offer, and where inefficiencies are pointed out I am always ready to verify what happened so as to improve the quality of our product and satisfy the guests’ needs. I guarantee you that your complain about the telephone has been promptly checked (more than once) but no fault on the phone or on the line has been found. Finally, with reference to the theft I end by informing you that for the Italian law hoteliers are responsible for any object taken into custody. When you, after paying the bill, entered in the lobby phone booth you could have left your luggage and briefcase into custody to the reception and not leaving them to your wife that after few minutes joined you at the telephone, leaving all the objects unguarded. In conclusion we present our regrets and in the hope that the reasons explained in this letter will be understood I send you my best regards. Giuseppe Avignone Duty Manager

We stayed 3 nights staying in a wheelchair-friendly corner room. I booked online on the strength of low prices, and as usually with a Mercure, was not disappointed.

The hotel is a converted old porticoed apartment building sideways to the Porta Nuova train station, about 2min walk from the bus and trains and 10min walk from Piazza Castello.

Staff is very friendly, but some staff's English a little rusty. One night it took us 30 min to get an extra tea cup, and my boyfriend was eventually given an espresso cup...

Everything is new and modern, and rooms are nicely decorated, a little naff in the French Chain Hotel way, but functionality and comfort were excellent. Beds were comfortable, with fresh white bed linen, furniture new and functional, new flatscreen television, nice fresh curtains. We had two balconies that we rarely used because there is quite a bit of building work outside, but the modern windows will block it out. The rooms have nice high ceilings going with such a period building. Bathrooms are simple and modern, and very functional.

Breakfast was slightly above standard, given that breakfast in Italy is a little neglected, especially the nice Torinese cakes, dome fresh fruit and proper coffee. The American breakfast looked pretty disgusting, give that a miss so you can have a big lunch in one of the excellent restaurants.

The only drawback is the area. It did not bother me in the slightest the first two days. There are a few prostitutes and shady-looking characters hanging around, and an intriguing mixture of tacky underwear and old-fashioned stationery shops. But on the Sunday, number of prostitutes seemed to have triplicated and someone actually tried, unsuccessfully, to steal from my handbag. It only seems to be this street and the parallel one being a bit of a red light district, further away its a normal residential area. I'd say you have to walk 1 min to get out of the slightly dodgy area. Piazza San Carlo Felice opposite the station is again a little uninvotong at night, but then, many train station areas aren't exactly scenic. It did not bother me, but I would not let kids run free there or something.

I'd definitely watch my wallet, other than that its perfectly safe, with police hanging around near the station.

I would stay there again - the nice athmosphere and comfort once inside make up for a 200m walk through a dodgy area.

Also, there are excellent cheap restaurants in the streets parallel to Via Roma, just pick one with many people in, can't go wrong. Whereas in Caffe Torino you pay 3-6 EURO for a coffee.

Hotel really nice and spotless, room very spacious, had 2 balconies one of which was huge, room cleaned daily, Staff helpful and Friendly, nice bar and barman was great, location to everywhere excellent, I agree with some of the reviews concerning the area outside of the hotel, there is some homeless etc that hang around but to be honest they never bothered us, I certainly didn’t see anything that suggested drug users etc as other reviews have put, didn’t put us of going out in the evening and walk-in back, would recommend this hotel

We just came back from a three night stay in this hotel. Very close to train station entrance Via Nizza. Very pleased with the room, we had a room on the 4th floor. Very quiet, even though it overlooked the main road. We had a large room with all the amenities needed. A very large bathroom , with shower and a jacuzzi bath, we even had toiletries and bathroom slippers. We had a balcony and another window. The front offive were very friendly and helpful. They even booked taxis for us. And very good value for money. Will definitly visit again.
