Thanks to a delayed train, I missed my connection at the border with Austria and was stranded in this very small village at midnight. Having walked up and down both streets of Brenner, I luckily stumbled onto the Hotel Olimpia. The owner/manager of the hotel was a relatively friendly (considering that I woke her up with my call) and offered me a single room, without breakfast (my next train was leaving at 05:28, so no point in breakfast) for 37 Euro. The room was clean and had a small but serviceable (and clean) bathroom en-suite. The only downside was the constant humming, presumably from a generator or from the house's heating system.
All in all - nothing fancy, but a life-saver when stranded in a cold mountain pass at midnight!

The town of Brenner (Brennero) sits just on the Italian side of the Austrian border. Not clear why anyone would be there except in transit, as were we. The only hotel we found was Hotel Olimpia, just a block down from the train station. The hotel is also a restaurant, deli, and liquor store. Staff was bi- or tri-lingual. Rooms were fairly adequate. Certainly better than a Motel 6 in America. Priced just a bit high for what it is. Restaurant food was okay. More
