We spent a week in the Meranerhof in June, encouraged by the great reviews.
The reviews turned out to be correct, this is a beautiful, very well run family hotel in a great location in the centre of Merano overlooking the river.
The location can mean some traffic noise at times if you’re sitting in the lovely garden, but it’s never intrusive.
We had room 107, at the back of the hotel overlooking the garden with a generous balcony. Our room seemed to be larger than most standard rooms, with a vestibule area, walk in wardrobe and a huge bathroom with a beautiful old stained glass window from the original hotel on this site.
Room cleaning and maintenance was exemplary. We had an issue with our air conditioning which was quickly fixed the same day.
We stayed half board, and breakfast and dinner were very good.
The breakfast buffet has a wide range of food available, both hot and cold, and the bread is all locally made and delicious. The scrambled eggs were also “real”, not the horrible powdered stuff!
Dinner varied from very good to simply amazing. A 5 course menu, ordered the morning before, with salad buffet, an appetiser from the kitchen, then soup or pasta (which was lovely) main course (meat, fish or vegetarian) and dessert. All freshly prepared and beautifully presented. There is a gala night once a week with music and a special menu. Don’t visit the Meranerhof if you’re on a diet!
The Eisenkeil-Waldner family, who run the hotel, and have done for many years, are justifiably proud of their hotel and always walk around the restaurant once or twice a day for a chat and to make sure everything is OK. The rest of the staff are friendly, multilingual and happy to help with anything you need.
This was our first visit to Merano, and the Meranerhof, but it won’t be our last.

Wow what a find this hotel is run to perfection white linen in the dining room waiter dressed as they should be and the service was very good. Breakfast was very good. But dinner was outstanding salad bar/ starter / pasta/ Maine / dessert nice wine list as well not over priced.

My room was facing the garden very nice with a balcony nice bathroom while towels and a dressing gown bedding was changed most days
The style of the hotel is very classic and so nice to see the family there each day and at dinner they came round to each table to make sure your stay was wonderful
They offer a walk into the hills just outside with Peter a very nice man and so helpful when things look tough
I so want to come back I traveled with INGHAMS one of the best there rep was so full of knowledge
A thanks also must go to the waiters who made dinner times a joy and last but not least
Jonny in the bar. His cocktails were the best served with a smile.
My thanks to one and all I will be back
John

This was our 10th visit since 2008, this visit was booked for 2020 but delayed by Covid, and standards are as good as ever. All the staff were very friendly and remembered us from previous visits.
The standard of service in the dining room is excellent and the quality of the food is of very high quality.
The rooms are cosy but with all the modern facilities that we expected.
The hotel is well centred for the local bus stops and city centre shaps, bars and cafes.
Although we are of an older age we are hoping to be able to visit in the future.
A wonderful weeks holiday with excellent weather
Highly recommended.

We love the South Tyrol. We love Meran. Many aspects of the Meranerhof are excellent. Its location is ideal. The hike with Peter and Willi was a particular highlight. Our garden view room was spacious and elegant. The garden and spa area was good for relaxing after a day’s hiking.
We booked with Inghams who assured us that the hotel catered for vegetarians, as did the hotel when we contacted them. We expect to be treated the same as carnivorous guests, and do not expect to have to make suggestions to the chef. We expect a four star hotel to provide meals not just avoiding meat, but offering healthy, balanced nutrition. Unfortunately this hotel thinks the former sufficient. The two starter courses were generally non-vegetarian. No effort was made to prepare alternatives for us equivalent to that served to carnivores – we were repeatedly given melon (not always ripe) and mozzarella & tomato. None of the main courses we were served were of restaurant quality, unlike the food presented to the carnivorous guests, which clearly benefited from much more time and effort in the kitchen. Examples of the vegetarian alternative main course were poached egg on vegetables, aubergine (stuffed with bland couscous), cheese omelette and finally deep fried mushroom. The head waiters (who initially expected us to eat fish and chicken) were aware of the problems. We also informed one of the owners on a couple of occasions, but it made no difference. Our visit was in summer 2018 – it has taken me this long to get over our treatment.

Another wonderful holiday at the Meranerhof Hotel in Merano. Lovely room and delicious food , especially enjoyed breakfast outside on the terrace.

This is a family run hotel where the standards are very high due to the personal attention of the owners Astrid and Beatrix Eisenkeil. All the staff are welcoming, friendly, helpful and very professional. Special thanks to Beatrix and Daniel who helped to sort out a problem with our Mobilcards.

Merano is full of charming elegance and is more Austrian than Italian in appearance. There are amazing flower displays everywhere. Local towns and villages are well worth a visit especially Schenna and Dorf Tyrol. Lovely walks along the river and nearby waalwegs which are easily reached by the very efficient public transport system.

We are already looking forward to returning next year.

Graham and Sue Harris

An old fashioned hotel (you have to lock your room door manually and can either leave the heavy key at the desk or take it with you) with excellent service and a small spa in the lower level. It's also right across from the main city thermal baths--very convenient location. Nice breakfast.

Having been many times in Tirolo with friends, we decided to stay this time in July ( only my wife and I ) in Merano. I selected Hotel Meranerhof because of its excellent location. Not only was the location excellent but the complete hotel experience was far beyond expectations. The room ( on the garden site) was spacious, clean and very nicely decorated. The personnel was extremely friendly, helpful and professional. Having breakfast and dinner outside on the porch was a treat where you thought you were in a beautiful country site. Food was excellent. Although the hotel is not inexpensive, it is well woth the money. Hope to be back again next year.

Had single room on 4th Floor. Superb view of river running by and mountains in background. All facilities in room and daily house keeping. Restaurant overseen by Hotel owner with fantastic service and local menus to enjoy. I lost my iPhone and the reception found it, I couldn’t have done it without German speaking help.
I have no hesitation in recommending this resort and hotel.

Second time to the Meranerhof. Having been on a family holiday and realised the walking potential of the area and I wanted to revisit to explore more. The Meranerhof is a great classy hotel. Staff and family are very friendly. The food at both breakfast and dinner of a high quality and well presented. Well themed dinners each night. Very nice garden and indoor pool accessed from the garden. I had a single room overseeing the river which was well appointed, clean and had great views. I also went on the weekly hotel walk which turned from a mountain walk to a valley one due to inclement weather good good nonetheless. An excellent stay and will probably return.
