We found Hotel Ca Zusto tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Venice in full summer in the midst of tourist season. It was only a short walk from the railway station, and not to far from the Grand Canal. ( which in my...More
We loved this charming hotel. Unfortunately because of a terrible flight delay we actually only got to enjoy it for about 6 hours! However, the staff were very accommodating and there was absolutely no issue when we needed to check in at 2am.
Quietly tucked away from the hustle and bustle, this quirky sanctuary still provides easy access to all Venice has to offer. We caught the train and walked there on arrival; reception staff happily organised a water taxi for our departure - the taxi was met...More

We were in Venice to enjoy our 25th anniversary. The hotel was easy walking distance from the train station and Grand Canal but it was surprisingly quiet. Comfortable beds, quite and dark rooms, and a history that goes back to the 1300s. Andreas was so...More

Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture
universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
