We arrived at noon and they gave us an upgrade to a mini suite! We were thrilled it was a lovely quiet room overlooking the canal. We alos had the hotel arrange the transport from the airport to the hotel directly. It was expensive but it worked perfectly. We were greeted at the airport with a driver and he took...

This lovely old restored building was very comfortable. The staff were most helpful ,the rooms nicely equipped. The breakfast was average. By Venice standards the hotel is good value. It is easy to get to.

I have just finished a two night stay in the Ruzzini Palace hotel and was very pleasently surprised. Ruzzini was not our first, or even at the top 10, choice of hotels in Venice and I was quite worried that we will not get a fair value to the money I was willing to spend. Having made a decision to...

Located on Campo Formosa about half-way between San Marco and the Rialto bridge, and easily accessible to both, The Ruzzini is a quiet island in the storm. The neighborhood is mostly residential and has few shops that attract tourists and the effect is very peaceful. As the hotel is a converted mansion, each room is different. Ours was a superior...

Having just completed a 14 day exhausting vacation, we checked into our prepaid destination in Venice for one extra night. Upon arrival, we were told that the hotel had overbooked and we were being placed at another location. Trusting in their professionalism, we boarded a water taxi (at their expense) and shortly thereafter arrived at the “Ruzzini Palace”. And indeed...

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Ruzzini Palace recently and experienced a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We would heartily recommend the private water taxi from the airport - it provides a wonderful introduction to this remarkable city. On arrival at the hotel we were presented with a bottle of sparkling wine and throughout our stay the staff were...

We booked our stay through our Tesco airmiles and we thought we were doing well when we arrived, then it just got better and better....... The staff were fabulously welcoming and we were upgraded to a fantastic suite. Architecturally, the Palace is stunning - a wonderfully historic building made comfortable by the modern changes. It is a refined place on...

This beautifully restored palazzo, just north of San Marco Square is a unique gem in a gorgeous city. The rooms are enormous, with spectacular views in each direction. There is an unbelievable common area salon where you can imagine the glitterati used to gather for balls and conducting the doge's more personal business meetings. Staff all are very helpful and...

Venice was my favorite city in my first trip to Italy and the Ruzzini Palace made it even more so. A beautful old structure made modern with renovations, our suite was very spacious and quiet with a big bathroom and plenty of storage space for all our luggage. The renovations are contemporary, a nice juxtaposition to the baroque-ness of the...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
