We had a lovely time at Antico Portego. We stayed in two different rooms bothe were beautiful with great amenity. All romes have their own private entrance and you are made very welcome to use the beautiful gartens, lounge and portico areas. The location is fantastic just 700 metres from the railway station but just off the main thoroughfare so... More

We really loved our long weekend here. It feels as though you're staying in a luxury historic family home, which in fact you are. The beds and chairs are intricately carved and there was a painting on the ceiling of our room. The breakfast is buffet style - a choice of cereal, fruit pastries etc but not a cooked breakfast.... Gorgeous and huge room in a lovely and historic private estate. Beautiful breakfast buffet with wonderful cappuccino and plenty of fruits and pastries. Lovely large bath and amazing shower in a large bathroom. BIG windows let in lots of the lovely Venice light. The only complaint was the atrocious bed that was just miserably uncomfortable and better suited to a... More

The location was convenient, the room nice, but the owner/manager's service/ attitude would benefit from some fine tuning. We arrived at 6:30 pm Friday for a 2-night stay at the facility. Breakfast (which was good) was served between 8am-9:30. I advised the owner/manager Giorgio that we needed an 8am departure on Sunday if it would be possible for her to... More

This place is a little gem. Tucked just off the main street it is quiet and cozy has only 8-10 rooms and is well located with easy access to the water taxi. This is a converted owners villa that has been in the family for 200 yrs. The rooms are large, clean and decorated with original antique pieces. The ceilings... More

We found this hotel on booking.com and tripdavisor after checking out earlier from a horrible hotel. We went there without reservation and unanounced. We rang the bell and were kindly welcomed by one the owners, Giorgia. As she still had to check if there was still a room available, she offered us something to drink in the beautiful entrance hall.... More

Nice B&B in a good Cannaregio sestieri, 10 mins short walk from Venice train station and 20 mins walk to St Mark square, very close to Vaporetto station. Beautifully decorated hotel felt very 'Venetian' to me from step one. Friendly stuff , ready to help. Quiet, secure. Bedding and pillows were a bit hard to my liking. Our room had... More

A lovely hotel in a great location. Georgia is the perfect host with help and ideas if needed of places to go and visit and eat etc. We had to leave early on the last morning and we were given a great breakfast to take away!

Me and my boyfriend visited Venice for a long weekend and stayed here. From the moment you open the pretty door and walk in it's absolutely beautiful and authentically Venice-looking - we loved the way it was decorated and the feel it had. The lady (forgotten her name) was so helpful and when we arrived went through the nearest vaporetto... More

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Georgia and her family have thought of everything you could need for a stay in Venice. Rooms are clean and beautifully furnished and equipped. Georgia gave us some very useful tips for an enjoyable stay.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
