The hotel was very basic and old-fashioned, could do with updating. The room was pretty bare and the bathroom was tiny! All was very tired! If you can pack a hairdryer, as the one provided was something from the 80s and didn't seem to be clean! Our room backed into the 'garden' which was fine and peaceful the first night...

A very shabby run down establishment it is very difficult to imagination ne how it retains a three star rating, the staff were very friendly and helpful the breakfast was perfectly adequate but the threadbare carpets going up the stairs, no elevators, was quite a shock, the bathroom does not really bear mentioning the air conditioning did not and I...

This hotel is ideally located close to the bus terminal and railway station in Venice. It is also located close to the monorail that will bring you to the cruise terminal. It is very basic and has no lift. If you have issues with mobility, this is not the place for you. If you are happy with basic service and...

Unfortunately a very poor hotel which takes advantage of its position which is its only advantage. The hotel is walking distance from the train station. The hotel itself is run down and very shabby. The rooms are tiny and the finishes are dated. Linen was of poor quality and breakfast also very basic. No free wifi. In summary this a...

The service of the hotel was very good and found the staff very helpful. We had a lovely room that overlooked the grand canal. Breakfast was tradional Italian breakfast, various bread, cakes and jam. Overall I would have no hesitation in return to this hotel.

Yes, this hotel could do with some refurbishment but i found this fact added to the charm. The staff were very friendly, comfortable rooms, good breakfast ( especially the croissants). The location was fantastic, close to the bus and train station. Right on the canal so made it easy to find.

Great location overlooking the Grand Canal. Good position for getting to and from airport. Clean, comfortable and warm room with good quality bed linen and towels. The building is very old and in places could do with some refurbishment . Breakfast is continental style with a good selection and plenty of it. .

We booked this as a packages through our travel agent as 4 star Accommodation on the Canal. First impressions from the outside were poor and on entering the reception was met with the pungent smell of sewage and a quite unwelcoming reception. Our too. Was on the 2 no floor and we knew there were no lifts but it was...

Highly recommended. Location was so ideal, close to the ferry and train station. Breakfast was simple and delicious. The speed of the rooms being cleaned was unbelievable - so fast!!! Staff were welcoming and spoke English so there was no trouble communicating. Before travelling to this hotel, we did read the reviews on tripadvisor about suspected bedbugs (so came prepared)...

My rating is based on the question, did we get value for money? I believe we certainly got that. In fact I might have given it a 5 star rating had the Garden been open for use. This had the effect of drastically limiting seating space at the bar, but if you can't find a good bar in Venice you're...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
