10-15 minute walk to the main tourist attractions. Public boat also close by. Luca was very kind and helpful to us. I highly recommend wandering the streets close by for beautiful views and cheaper restaurants. Venice is expensive, but this place is cheaper than most. Breakfast is very simple.

Stayed at RESIDENZA MADDALENA for two nights and would highly recommend it. Its location is excellent, a 10min walk to the main train station, 10-15min walk to the main square. Some very nice restaurants close by. Our room was very nice, lots of space and very clean, and the bathroom was also very clean. Breakfast each morning when ever you...

I stayed for one night with my S.O. and we had a blast! It's in the middle of all the action of Venice. Luca was very helpful and had a very clean place. Stay here. It's cheap for the room and the hospitality is something that doesn't come around often. I give it a 12 out of 10. You would...

Not to sound pesimistic from the beginning: location is good! ;) That is unfortunately the only + of this place. Anyway, we stayed 3 nights, had to change the room 3 times (not our fault, there was some problem with Luca's reservation system - if you can call that mess a system...) First room was awfully cold, we slept probably...

Stayed in room 2 which was a comfortable queen bed. Clean and comfortable room. Shower and toilet were always kept clean. Breakfast was okay but it was included so it's an extra bonus. Location was very good with easy walking access to everything. Luca was very friendly and kind. If you needed anything or had a problem he would do...

We stayed at Residenza Maddalena for 4 nights in late November while visiting Venice. Some info below. Pro's: 1 - Excellent location in Cannaregio just behind the casino. It's a 10 min walk to rialto and another 10 or so to san marco. 2 - rooms are large and have plenty of space 3 - plenty of hot water in...

My friend and I wanted a cheap and nice place in Venice and we thought this destination worked. First off, the location is great only 10 mins walk or so from the train station and lots of restaurants. We had only booked one night but it worked well enough for us to stay another night. Secondly, you're basically sharing an...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
