Staff was very nice and incredibly accommodating with every question. Lobby & restaurant were beautiful. We were able to get into our room early which was wonderful but when we got to the room we were sad to see that we could not open our windows due to the scaffolding and construction. We knew construction was going on but since...

This is a slightly dated hotel, but clean and brilliant all the same. The location is excellent, close to the station but not too close! Great restaurants and bars nearby. The breakfast which was included in our rate was really good. Staff were brilliant and the bed was too die for, it literally like sleeping on a cloud!

Beautifully decorated hotel throughout all of the main hotel areas and rooms. We had a party of 6, with 2 in each room. Two singles for our teenage boys and king size beds in the other 2. Beds were very comfortable snd it is nice to have full control of the temperature in each room and the ability to open...

For those who are staying for a short period in Venice I highly recommend Papadopoli. The rates are not so cheap, but I wouldn't expect anything to be cheap in Venice. It is in a quiet yet strategic area, near Piazzale Roma, with a lot of good restaurants nearby. The room was comfortable but small, with a large bed. My...

This hotel close to the bus and train stations is, at the moment, shrouded in netting due to building works. The exterior grandeur is therefore lost. Whilst the lobby is rather grand the receptionists were not welcoming nor particularly helpful. This maybe due entirely to us being part of a large group as opposed to an individual traveller. The bedroom...

The Papadopoli is undergoing "emergency" rectification work which means that over half of the rooms have scaffolding and polythene sheet outside and you cannot open the window or see out. So if you are going to book in early 2013 ensure you do not get one of these rooms. We changed our room and had an excellent comfortable room with...

it is a hotel that i will say excellent service and location. with all you need in the hotel, even the bathing salt i even get a free bottle of wine, a big surprise from the hotel on the 24th Dec night. the only things to improve is the WIFI need to be paid and the price a bit expensive.

This hotel was a nice, relaxing place to stay, with excellent staff who gave great service. The breakfast buffet is excellent, if not overly extensive, but with lots to choose from. The bar is very good, with nice appies and it was able to cobble together a late night light meal, with good wine selection. However it is very expensive...

we stayed at the start of December, could not say ANY thing bad about this hotel. The staff from check-in, bar, room cleaning and the girls looking after us at breakfast FIRST CLASS. We have already booked to stay again, and looking to book later in the year, will not stay at any other hotel.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
