Venice is so beautiful and romantic, that everything else is secondary. Papadopoli is near to the train station/bus station/water bus, so full marks there. Location is bit far from main canal/Rialto/San Marco, but walking in Venice is an experience in itself. Hotel is actually very expensive (everything in Venice is expensive), rooms are adequate, nice colonial era interiors, comfortable bed,...

The Papadopoli Hotel was very elegant and the furniture was unique. Almost colonial French style decor throughout. Our room was of a reasonable size with plush furniture. The lobby was an interesting sight and the staff were very friendly. Importantly, the Hotel is only 10mins walk from the Venice train station, although you do need to carry your luggage across...

Yes highly recommend this hotel pre-cruise. A great location near the cruise terminal and we also found a good location re walking around the city. Our room was very comfortable and all staff very friendly and professional. Unfortunately the restaurant lets this hotel down in a major way - the decor is unbelievable bad, the menu and wine list somewhat...

We booked a deluxe room facing the canal. The room is well appointed and quiet. The service is friendly. The hotel has a great location if you are coming or going by train: just a short 5-10 minute walk. Also it is also really close to the water boat stop: Piazza Roma. The breakfast is excellent and has abundant of...

My sister and I stayed at this hotel and cannot say enough about how much we loved it. It sits right on the canal, so the watertaxi drops you off literally at the front door. Quite a few people said they had to walk blocks to their hotel. When you enter the ambience is fabulous, just as I imaginged Venice...

The location is just 10 minutes away from Santa Lucia station. When we got there, they took care our luggages which is very rare in Europe. They surprised us by upgrading our room and a tray of prosecco and fresh strawberry. Everything is perfect with a balcony facing the canal. The front desk was very helpful, giving best choice for...

We stayed at Papadopoli for 2 nights starting our 18 day Italy and Greek tour with Gate 1 travel. We upgraded our room to a high floor with a balcony overlooking a small canal. So glad we did this. Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
