We are displeased with this hotel. The beds feel like you are sleeping on box springs, the shower head is positioned so it shoots out of the shower and gets water all over the floor, the insulation in the hotel is do thin you can hear everything/everyone above, below you. The decor is old and worn down. The service is...

Not a hotel that I would recommend at all. You are paying for the location and nothing else. I would rather be in a less central location and stay somewhere with standards. There were problems with smelly bathrooms, bins unemptied - used soap in the bathroom on arrival! I travelled with friends and would find them waiting for me in...

The Hotel is set at the back of the square, less than 50 yards away. The room was spacious, light and clean. Venetian style furnishings with flat screen tv and air con. Breakfast was continental with a good selection of cold foods. We would stay there again if in Venice.

knowing from personal experiece that normally Best Western is a good chain hotes, but...not this one, especially if you travel with a small children(cot beds for additional charge of 15 EUR, no high-chairs in the restaurant). Location is good, but could be very noisy at night time.Young guy at the reception is very rude, as well as phillipines lady at...

Yes, a few steps from San Marco, but I actually checked out after two nights and found another hotel. RUDE, unhelpful staff, clearly counting on the location to fill up - no customer service at all. I waited at that desk to check in, to check out, and even just to hand over my key and get it back (as...

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in July 2012. In favor of the hotel I have to say that the location couldn't be better, right off the Piazza San Marco. However, almost everything else was a disaster. The staff is rude and not at all helpful. The day I was supposed to check out, they kept calling me...

This hotel recommended by our agency, was a huge disappointment! Noisy, cold showers, rude staff and a terrible breakfast. Crazy, maze like hallways with stairs everywhere. We resorted to wedging bits of cardboard in the window frames to keep the unsealed panes of glass from rattling every time the front door of the hotel slammed shut.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. The reception was terrible, the staff was rude and unhelpful. My wife said it reminded her of the tv show "Fawlty towers", but not in a funny way. the room was tiny and old with wallpaper that started coming off the walls, the "view" was another window about 3 ft away....

Okay - one night, fleas, peeling paint, mold on bathroom ceiling and filthy walls in room ~ the one plus was location. So, would we rather stay at a hotel further from San Marco without bugs, mold and dirt… oh YES! This hotel needs to be refurbished! We called when we saw the flea in our bed and were told...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
