Approx 900 mts away from st marks square and right on the water front, this hotel is conveniently located and has great views! We stayed only one night but we're able to cover all key tourist destinations by foot itself. Slightly steep price (approx 300 eur) considering the rooms are not very large but worth paying considering the location. Also...

This hotel is within ...four bridges of st marks square. Very old , very expensive. But you are literally on the lagoon . Rooms very basic...no frills. Staff courteous but aloof. Restaurant good but also expensive. I had one meal there. Starter fantastic...poached egg in parmesan cheese cream with truffles. Main course ...ok. wine expensive but good. Breakfast included and...

It was a little small, but romance. My husband and I loved our view from our rooms. Again, our room did not have a refrigerator, but it was alright. The shower had beautiful marble. It was a pinkish color. NOW - I did get yelled at for setting in the restaurant which you have to pass through to go out...

I love Venice. And the location of Hotel Gabrielli is perfectly near Piazza San Marco and Doges Palace. It is a hotel with old elegance.... and old charm. The men at the front desk are quite serious and, in my opinion, a bit snobbish. The breakfast each morning was very good! Typical of other hotels we stayed in during our...

We stayed eight nights after disembarking a cruise. Our room was on the backside of the hotel which was quiet. Limited "views" except from the front (and perhaps the back where you can see the garden). The room was large enough for us to be comfortable over the length of our stay. The location was great relative to the Piazza...

The location of this hotel is at the edge of the crowds along the Riva degli Schiavone but close to everything. First, if you come in from the airport, it is about 50 meters from a stop on the Alilaguna. Second, if you use the vaporetto, you have a choice of two nearby stops--San Zaccaria and the Arsenale. From those...

We enjoyed this hotel very much. It is convenient for the vaporetto and other tour boats and only a five minute walk to St Marco square. We had a gorgeous view of the lagoon with a balcony. It is very old (1852?) but well taken care of. Breakfast was included each day and we enjoyed bar service on the roof...

The location was pretty good. But having paid over 600€ for a room without even a minibar or a coffee machine, is quite a poor money for value ratio. If it would have been half the price per night, ok. But like this, it was really bold!

A beautiful characterful hotel on the entrance to the Grand canal- just a short walk from the Danieli. Polite efficient staff. Good choice of breakfast. Rooms are as I say full of character- not your modern identical rooms. Interestingly different toiletries. The most awesome part was the roof terrace where you can sip a drink and watch the comings and...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
