Excellent location near the train and bus station, from hotel to St. Marco Square is it about 30 minutes by walk. We reserved a room with external bathroom, upon arrival we got a free room with private bathroom. Breakfast was good (slices of cheese, ham, toasts, cereals, yogurt, croissants, jams ...), very helpful and friendly staff. We enjoyed staying in...

Our room faces the canal!and we have a great view of the Venice Carnival during our stay in Jan 2013. Excellent! Room is spacious and clean, though furniture is slight old-fashion. Location was hard to find at first but once you found it, its so convenient! everywhere is within walking distance. Alot good restaurants along the way. For the price...

My partner and I have just come back from a 4 day trip to Venice where we stayed in hotel Hesperia. The hotel is lovely, it is located on a canal off the grand canal with beautiful views and compared to some hotels located in the back streets closer to St Marks square it is worth being further out just...

This is a lovely hotel; small, friendly, convenient and affordable. It's handy for the railway station and the vaporettos, and there are some excellent restaurants within 5-10 minutes walk. We've stayed there twice and would happily go back.

We loved our stay. Our room looked out to the Cannaregio Canal. We were able to watch the opening of the Carnivale from our room - it was wonderful. The hotel is by the train station so it's not close to Piazza San Marco. The staff was very friendly. There are some really good restaurants nearby.

Spent a night in this hotel during the final week of Carnival 2013. It is located along the Cannaregio Canal, a mere 5 minutes walk from the railway station which allows to minimize the time you have to pull your trolleys through the city on arrival and departure. Room was small but tidy and warm (no need of heavy blankets)....

I stayed in this hotel in January 2013. The hotel made a good impression. It is located near the train station and near the bus station, to reach it from there you have to walk about 8-10 minutes on foot without crossing the channel. The hotel staff is very friendly and polite, spoke in English. Very beautiful and stylish decor...

From booking to leaving we were more than happy with our choice of hotel for our 15th wedding anniversary. We were put in a very nice room on the first floor, overlooking the Canareggio canal. The sight when we opened the shutters the first morning was mesmerising! The canals are like our high streets and the way the boats are...

We stayed for 2 nights. Arrived at 7pm and took the long route of 10-15 min walks dragging our heavy bags along the canal - we were very happy to finally see a lighted place that mark this hotel's entrance. We are upgraded to a 2nd floor room with side canal view at no additional cost. Next day, we checked...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
