We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights at the beginning of July 2014. The hotel is in a great location obviously next to Rialto Bridge. Easy to walk to St Marks Square and close to vaparetto stop. My daughter and I shared a twin bedroom. We had Room 106 but I had to ask to be moved after the...

Checked into the hotel and was surprised to of been upgraded to a canal view room. This break was a surprise for my mums birthday, and as a further surprise from the hotel, the hotel gifted us with a bottle of wine on the actual day of her birthday. The view was beautiful, seeing gondolas, the Rialto bridge etc. from...

This was our first trip to Venice and we stayed at the Hotel Rialto on the recommendation of my daughter, who had stayed here in the late '90's. It couldn't have been in a better or more central location in Venice. Perfect location to visit ALL parts of Venice, either by water taxi or walking. The rooms were very "European",...

View of the bridge was amazing, in the heart of water taxis, shopping, restaurants. The rooms was beautiful and spacious. Highly recommend this hotel - not too big easy access by water taxi - and it's fun to hang out on the bridge, always something to see

Right on the Grand Canal and next to the Ponto Rialto, it's Venice Central which has it's advantages (step right onto a vaparetto, water taxi or gondola, everywhere is reachable on foot) and it's disadvantages (crowds). Rooms are cozy (2 people and luggage will fill it up) and old school - which is what is to be expected in Venice....

I really enjoyed staying at The Rialto. I really wanted the canal view which was great, a real glimpse into the workings of this incredible city. The front desk and other staff were friendly and helpful at all times. I didn't eat breakfast at the hotel much, preferring to buy fruits in season at the nearby market, but it was...

I was bullied into booking this hotel by my 10 year old daughter who wanted a view of the Grand Canal. We paid an absolute fortune for the room - 1200 Euro for 4 nights, more than most 5 star hotels, and I was a bit disappointed with the room, quite small, long and narrow and the overpowering decor. It...

We booked 5 rooms for family and friends for an overnight stay prior to our cruise departing from Venice. The location was perfect, the rooms beautiful, the staff very accomodating, and the view amazing. Also, as others have mentioned, even though it is in the heart of everything in Venice noise at night was not a problem. Everyone really enjoyed...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
