We have just returned from this hotel yesterday. We arrived Monday after taking the airport express bus into Venice. This hotel is less than 10 mins by foot from the bus stop, so really easy to get to. Our room had a canal view which was nice but may not suit everyone if you want a quiet room. We were...

Just got back from Venice staying at Carlton on the Grand. It is in an excellent position if you are visiting by train or bus as across from station and p. Rosso, and just across the canal is one of the main vaperetta stations. It is quite a walk to St Marks Square but if you buy a waterbus ticket...

My family of 3 stayed at this hotel during an Insight Vacations tour of Italy. My hotel expectations for Venice were modest because it's and old and complicated place, yet this hotel managed to be disappointing. The location may technically be on the Grand Canal, but it's at the beginning of that canal across from the train station. So getting...

I recently stayed here as part of my tour in Italy.I had requested and paid for a ''canal'' view room with a balcony and was given a regular room at check in.The gentleman who dealt with me insisted that I had not requested a canal view room and that there were none available in any case.I produced my copy of...

Our first night in Italy, after a very long flight...no luggage...it was still in Philly. Checked in around 11:30 pm, great second floor room, facing the Grand Canal. Lovely "old lady" she has seen her share grandness and neglect, I am sure. The room was nice, a little "shabby chic" but totally fine! Beautiful reception and breakfast room, delicious breakfast...

This hotel is in a great location on the grand canal but away from the really busy parts which can be noisy. Breakfast was good, the rooms were larger than we'd expected and the bathroom spacious. No wifi in the rooms but you can use it in the foyer.

We stayed in this hotel last August 2013. It was our 25th weding aniversary and everything was perfect. The location is great brecause it's near the Airport, train station and "Vaporetti" , and also very easy to find. Because of it's location in the quiet bank of the Grand Canal, you can have a good night sleep far from the...

This hotel is perfectly located for airport, train and cruise whether inbound or outbound, and so easy to find. Like virtually every hotel in Venice, the rooms are compact but with air con, a decent bathroom and comfortable bed - what more do you need when staying in an amazing city? Although the City is a maze, the location near...

We stayed at this hotel in December 2012, however we did not know we were going to be staying here. We arrived in Venice in the late afternoon. It was really dark and misty and my partner had lost the address for our hotel (Hotel Carlton Capri). So we wandered around looking for directions and after a little while I...

My first stop in Italy was at this hotel, I only stayed for one night as the hotel was so expensive and I had great expectations. The lobby is very grand and gives you an idea of what the rooms would be like however I felt a little let down and would say the rooms are really only 3 stars....

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
