Venice. Nice place to visit once would not go back people are rude except taxi drivers. As they are used to dealing with tourist. A lot of people smoke especially the younger generation and they don't mind blowing it in your face. If you stay on Venice island be prepared to drag your bags over steps and cobble stones which...

Compact hotel in quiet area. Rooms are small but adequate. Would recommend for short stay, no views from rooms as the hotel is situated in an ally off the main thoroughfare. Staff helpful and friendly.

Decided to stay an extra day but our first hotel was already booked. They were kind enough to book us into the Carlton Capri. And we were lucky they had a room for us last minute. It was a lovely hotel tucked behind the main streets. Quiet! Up on the second floor. The wifi actually worked in the room! For...

The Carlton Capri is an excellent quite location. It is far enough from the thousands of tourist but still in the city and the Rialto Bridge or Piazza San Marco could easily reached by foot in 15-20 minutes! The WiFi is superb, the staff is super friendly and helpful. The only thing I did miss during my weeks stay was...

Not the first time I have stayed in the Carlton Capri and hopefully not the last. When you first arrive in Venice by either Bus or Train you have to get to your accommodation and the Carlton Capri is an easy ten minute walk from either even when dragging a suitcase with only two small bridges to cross. [Try dragging...

It was the second time we stayed in this hotel. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean, beds very good. Really value for money. Breakfast is OK, surely re Italian standards. Hotel is located in a calm area, in the "backyard" of the "Carlton of the grand canal" hotel. Location is super, only a few minutes walking from...

We stayed here for five days. It is reasonable and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, across from the train station, a block inwards from the Canal Grande. They offer a lovely breakfast with the traditional sorts of coffee. Our room was small, but clean and fresh. If you a tourist in Venice there is so...

We stayed there for 3 nights (late check in first night and very early check out on the 3rd). The stuff is very friendly and nice, nothing bad to say about it. The location is perfect. 5 min walk from the train station and Piazze del Rome. Has all the essentials in close proximity. But, there are few minor inconveniences...

Things on Venice can be expensive; but the Carlton Capri was priced just right with breakfast included. If you are looking for a nice clean hotel to stay at, this is the place that is on the island and near the train station. My wife and I can to Venice for Christmas and to celebrate our annaversary. This hotel was...

I stayed with my boyfriend in (what I presumme) one of the less beautiful rooms of the hotel but it was lovely, the view was dissapointing (we had 2 windows looking into the patio) but we enjoyed the stay, the breakfast was really good and the location was perfect to get everywhere.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
