I stayed here a few days ago and was very satisfied with the overall standard for the price.
I think that the main reason that this hotel gets such consistently good ratings are:
1)Several employees are outstanding. They make a huge difference, and made our...More
I have never written a review before but after our wonderful experience at this hotel, I promised myself that I would as soon as I returned home. We spent the last 3 nights of a 13 night trip to Italy at this hotel and found...More
Out of the four hotels we stayed in during our trip to Europe, this was the best. And the other hotels supposedly had three and four stars. Hotel Abbazia was very clean, the shower and bathroom were a nice size and the room was comfortable...More
As other said before, the hotel does have a great location. Make a left out of the train station, a left at the first alley(?), then a left about 25 yards down and you're there. In spite of this, it was very quiet, and we...More
My mom and I stayed at Hotel Abbazia for three days in May 2006. I cannot gush enough about the many facets of this hotel- the location, the room, the atmosphere, the staff- everything was so wonderful. The hotel is filled with antique tapestries, glass...More

Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

From Hotel Abbazia come out the front door, turn right and walk to the end of the building. Turn right again and walk about 1 city block past the train station and over the bridge. You can see the building with the Avis office on the right hand side. Walk to the other side of the building and there is "People Mover" (train) that costs 1.5 euro and takes you right to the dock. Fast, close and comfortable. A very short walk.

The best and cheapest way to go/come to/from the airport Marco Polo of Venice (VCE) is to catch the airport shuttle bus of ATVO Company from/to Piazzale Roma (the car/bus/parking terminal) and from /to Piazzale walk for about 7 minutes to the Hotel. The only "issue" could be to cross the new bridge connecting Piazzale Roma to the opposite train station side.
