Despite of the wonderful location our room was very poor considering the cost per night. Breakfast consists of vacuum-packed cakes and eggs are not the best. The owner and his wife look like J.Deep and M.Pfeiffer but they were very aloof and a bit arrogant since we met them over Rialto bridge and they cut us dead... We won't go...

Our first impression of this hotel was one of disappointment and not what we had expected. Whilst rated as a 4-star establishment, it seemed more like a 3-star hotel. This is a small establishment which seeks to promote itself through its personal service – this however amounted to addressing all guests by their first name at every encounter. On arrival...

......And this was the place to do it. Yes, it is a bit overpriced.....BUT....it's on the GRAND CANAL. We have stayed at their sister property near San Marco before.....even 1 night on THIS trip before checking in here.....and will go back there again. As much as we loved this location on the Grand Canal, LOVED seeing Matteo again, meeting Bruno,...

The hotel is very well located and the owners (2 brothers) are just very very helpfull and more; they'll talk to you for hours about Venice, restaurant, place to see, etc. The breakfast area is Magnifico. Rooms are nice, quite large in comparison to some other hotel I have been in Italy, spain, Ireland, Miami... The only complain was about...

Going to Venice you have fantasies of the beautifully decorated hotel suite with Venetian embroidery and old world elegance. Of waking up to a view of the morning rush on the Grand Canal. A breakfast that only royalty is used to. Of walking into an oasis of serenity styled by a Hollywood film crew. Of being waited on by a...

I booked several nights at Al Ponte Antico based on these trip advisor reviews. I went over a year ago which is good because now I can look back and see the experience for what it was. This hotel was ranked much higher on the list when I went. I think it was #1. The main thing I want to...

A lovely hotel located close to the Rialto Bridge with rooms tastefully decorated and a style that takes you back to a bygone era. All staff, including the propreitor, were extremely friendly, helpful and provided a first class service. We were allocated a bedroom that did not have a view of the Grand Canal and the view through the equivalent...

This is one of the harder reviews I've had to write as for the most part this hotel is truly exceptional. In summary - stay here but don't stay in room 104 if you're over 6ft tall - and be aware that three of the rooms (inc 104) come directly off the bar/eating/lounge area... If you want more detail read...

Stayed at the Al Ponte Antico for three nights. I had booked the hotel based on reviews on Tripadvisor, and found that the place really lived up to our expectations. The warmth and hospitality displayed by Mateo and his team is truly exceptional. The view from the balcony overlooking the grand canal is superb, I could sit there all day...

We would stay again just because of the terrace and the service. However, I couldn't rate the hotel as excellent because I had very limited wi-fi/internet service and because the only computer with a printer was not working so I had to sit behind the front desk to print the boarding pass! This wouldn't have been a problem except I...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
