The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of San Marco, staff was friendly and very helpful. They provided us with maps and a couple of suggesstion. After check out they even offered to hold our luggage until our flight later that evening. They also offered to post our postcards and had the this charged to our room. The room was...

The initial service at the hotel was friendly, efficient and helpful and the standard of english was very good. The annexe, where we stayed, is obviously the budget side of the hotel, but it was very clean and attractive, though from what other guests had indicated, probably a little small compared to the hotel's website picture gallery. Well worth the...

Your first impression (challenge) is locating this hotel when pulling your bags from the Rialto stop but persevere and ask directions.... it is part of the Venice experience. You could take a water taxi (cost Euro70). The position is in a quiet piazza away from the tourist crowds but within easy walking distance to both Rialto and St Marks. We...

Upon me and my fiance's arrival to this hotel we were greeted by a blonde haired woman at the front desk who was very nice and helpful. The hotel does have very nice decor, very Venetian. A bit small, but what do you expect for Venice. Our room was very tiny as well, but was decorated very nicely and clean....

Originally were booked into the Ca Dei Conti for March14,2011. When we arrived the original hotel was having a plumbing problem and asked if we would stay at the Hotel Santa Marina. Left with that choice we of course went to the alternate hotel. What a pleasant surprise. It is set on a plaza equidistant between Saint Mark's Square and...

Very well furnished hotel in a good position for all the major areas. The breakfast was far better than I expected with good choice although the machine coffee maker took a bit of working out. We had a very good price for our room and the special offer should have had us in the annex but they put us in...

We were moved to this hotel when our original hotel was overbooked upon our arrival, but were pleasantly surprised. The staff members were all very helpful and pretty friendly throughout our stay, and our room was tastefully decorated in a traditional Venetian style with silk wall coverings and bedding. The room was somewhat small, but if you have traveled within...

We stayed here for three nights (pre cruise) and thoroughly enjoyed it. We booked the hotel directly with their web site and that seemed to be the best deal. We booked a superior room but when we arrived there was no superior rooms left and we were upgraded to a suite. It was a little sitting room with a couch,...

My wife and I stayed at the Santa Marina Hotel for two nights in early October 2010. We started our honeymoon in this beautifu hotel and could not imagine a better place to begin our marriage. The hotel is situated in a great spot, just minutes walk from both the San Marco square and the Rialto area. The staff was...

Our stay was wonderful. At first it was a little hard to find but once you learn the area it was no problem. We stayed in the main part of the hotel and the room was beautiful with gorgeous wood work. The staff was great and very helpful. They have a small closet in the main lobby, similar to a...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
