Lovely small hotel above a restaurant where you have your breakfast included, centrally located and run by friendly helpful staff particularly Michele who emailed me when an upgrade to grand canal view room became available unfortunately was out of our price range but on arrival he kindly allocated a room on the top floor with lovely views across the roof...

What a gem of a place to stay. With it's Venetian style furnishings and location overlooking the lagoon, it typified Venice. We booked this place online requesting a lagoon view room and were not disappointed. Our room on the 4th floor had a great view, but beware....there is no lift, so high floors wouldn't suit all. The staff are friendly...

The restaurant was a nice find. It is close to St Mark's Square but of high quality and the view is wonderful. We stayed with fish which was well done and the service was friendly and fun. Not a stuffy place though the service was good and the quality high.

We stayed at the hotel wildner in late July 2016. it really is in a great location about 150 m from St. Mark's Square facing the lagoon . It is a simple but delightful small hotel . The rooms are decorated in old Italian styling which is dated but authentic . Don't expect five-star service or room service or tea...

Lovely looking hotel within walking distance to St Marks Square and other sights. We had a room on the 1st floor without a lagoon view, the room was spacious, very clean and had a powerful shower. It would have been nice to have had tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge in the room but having the attached restaurant...

Nice hotel at a really nice location in Venice. Short walk to all the different places you want to see. I enjoyed the breakfast also, and the straff had a nice attitude and seemed helpful at all times.

We know Venice pretty well and returned to the Wildner, having stayed at several other similarly priced hotels in the area. The staff are friendly, helpful if you need it, but not pushy. Michele on front desk speaks excellent English and is customer focussed. For the location and service, the price is very reasonable, if you can be a bit...

We stayed for a week. The location is critical being a few minutes walk from St Marks Square and the rooms have a commanding view over the lagoon. The hotel manager and all the staff were very kind & thoughtful. It gave the impression of a family run hotel. The cleaners were thorough and the rooms without fault. It is...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
