Situated in the elegant neighbourhood of Dorsoduro, Agli Alboretti is a fine three star hotel meticulously run by the same family since three generations. It offers a quiet, relaxing atmosphere of an ancient Venetian house, and it is strategically placed to visit the most interesting sites of Venice. Its 21 rooms are furnished in 19th century or navy style and have been recently redecorated. They are fitted with private services, satellite TV, free wi-fi, mini bar and air conditioning in summer. They overlook either the lively street Rio Terà Foscarini or some private inner gardens among which the hotel's courtyard where, in Summer, breakfast is served. A lift is available as well as a top floor terrace where guests can sit and relax. The curious name "Agli Alboretti" comes from the "small trees" that were planted along the street Rio Terrà Foscarini at the end of 19th century when the canal was filled in and transformed into a street.

Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

We stayed for 7 days, from Dec 3rd. The "small sitting room" we had booked wasn't really a lot of use to us as it is more a space for a 3rd bed. We were on the 4th floor, but there is a lift, so that was OK. The man on reception could not have been more helpful with ideas of

A gorgeous little hotel that is stuffed with books curiosities and other celebrations of the city and its history. At first it seemed a little cramped but was actually very comfortable and, if the weather is unkind (which during my stay in the city it often was) you can be

They saved us during the aqua alta! We could not make it to our rented apartment and they had a room for us on the spot. Very friendly staff. Room was clean, there were some drinks in the fridge for us. We didn't have breakfast as we just wanted to make it to our apartment

The hotel is about 80 metres from the Academia Bridge. From the station you take a Vaporetto number 1 which being almost 2 kilometres stops about ten times. A faster journey is by the number 2 which stops 4 or 5 times. [the slower journey gives more time to enjoy the Grand Canal] Note you need to purchase tickets BEFORE getting the cap. and don't forget to validate the ticket on the landing stage before boarding. The journey is (of course ) towards S Marco / Lido .
