It's only now that I am back home and have taken a few moments to read the "poor" and "terrible" ratings previously posted, I can say, sadly, those ratings are justified. The first room we were in was simply inadequate, and after we insisted adamantly enough, we were moved to a better room - not a wonderful room, just a...

Dear Madam, First, let us tell you that we feel relieved that you only used the latin phrase “caveat emptor” because it is still better than “ic sunt leones”. There is still hope for our property then. Your review is one of the most difficult to reply to because it is an “expressive” review, very general in the content and...

Everything about the location, very near to Piazza San Marco, as well the price of a room are reasons to stay here. However the Flora lacks the charm its advertising and a friend's recommendation indicated we would find. The people at the front desk say all the right things; but we had the sense they were merely rehearsed and said...

I booked last minute during Carnivale and got a great deal. My room was TINY, but perfectly fine. The hotel is charming and the bartender very sweet. The location is perfect, 5 minutes walk to St. Marco. This is not a fancy hotel. It's a quiet, quaint, tucked away, affordable option.

Wow. What a little gem hidden away down a small alley way, not too far from St Marks Square but far away enough to not to be disturbed by the tourist noise. Also reasonable room rates. Book direct for best rates. Stayed in two rooms, both of which were very good. However, if you are a big person the shower...

We stayed at the Hotel Flora during the final 3 nights of an 11-day Italian family vacation in March. This will be our new "secret" tip for friends heading to Venice. I have listed the pros and cons below, but a definite highlight worth mentioning upfront is the wonderful staff. In particular, the concierges Sergio and Giovanni (and Roberto, who...

The Hotel is a very nice Hotel with old flavor. Perfectly located near to St. Markus place. The receptionist represents the hotel very sympathetically. Rooms a nice. we had room 11 and 10 close to each other and room 10 with 2 separate beds was perfect for our children. The only maybe not optimal point is, that the breakfast room...

We discovered Hotel Flora through TripAdvisor. Although it is not one of the top ranked hotels, it appeared nice enough, and the pictures seemed to suggest a charming old hotel set on an ideal location from which to explore Venice during a short break. We arrived and were slowly taken in by the sheer charm of the place. You do...

I stayed at the beautiful Hotel Flora in October. The room was very small but I was traveling alone so the size was perfect. It was very clean and the bathroom was a good size for one person. The outdoor seating area is beautiful and peaceful, the breakfast area Is quaint and the staff very accomodating and friendly. I would...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
