" What can i tell you about Venice that you don't already know?", the painter Paul Signac once asked. Indeed,we are not just acquainted with the fine palazzi, magnificent churches and famous museums,we even know little details too; that Venice is also called "La Serenissima", that the Grand Canal is called Canl and not Canale, that a total of over 400 bridges...

We booked had a 3 day stay at the Flora for my wife's 50th birthday weekend, with our children aged 21 and 18. The hotel was just as I remembered it 25 years ago, dated but in a charming way. The concierge are also charming and very helpful. The Family suite of 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms was perfect. Breakfasts...

We could not find any fault with this hotel. It is located in one of smarter areas off San Marco. It's easy to find off the vaporetto. The garden patio is a lovely area to sit in and take a coffee. The staff are all so pleasant and extremely helpful. We would have no hesitation in staying here again. But...

I think of this place every now and again and smile! The inner garden area patio is tranquil and beautiful. We ate a complementary breakfast here every morning and enjoyed our tea with great pleasure. It's just so incredibly charming! The location is supreme. Easy to find when the water taxi dropped us off. Just steps off of the main...

We booked a family room which was perfect for our family of four (boys 9 & 14). The room was very clean and bathroom appeared to be recently updated. We arrived late at night and the water taxi dropped us off in the canal only a couple minutes walk to the hotel. The hotel is centrally located between San Marco...

this hotel just oozes charm. We were lucky to stay in Rm 3, which was a very nice sized room that was decorated with antique furniture and a chandelier, and overlooked the hotel's garden courtyard. It was BEAUTIFUL. The staff was always very friendly and courteous, and the buffet breakfast was extensive and good. It's location couldn't be beat either...

The Hotel Flora is a very friendly and fairly small hotel situated in a great location . As it is set back from the main thoroughfare there was no noise disturbance at night despite the Venice Carnival being in full swing. The rooms are perhaps not as big as a modern hotel but gave ample space and a very comfortable...

The Hotel Flora is a small, family owned hotel near San Marco Square in Venice. It is a three star hotel. Its strengths are its location, nice buffet breakfast in an attractive outdoor garden, and its friendly service. The rooms at the hotel are small, but they are air conditioned. The hotel is a good value.

Our second visit together as a couple, and it was as friendly and welcoming as the other times we stayed. Despite the fact that they were full because of Carnival, we always receive fantastic service, amazing and plentiful breakfasts and very comfortable rooms. Location is central but quiet as it is in a lovely quiet alleyway. We will definitely be...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
