Our first time in Italy and first time in Venice all in the same trip. We really appreciated the location of La Residenza. Our 4 days there revealed that the neighborhood reflected the real Venice, not 'Disney" Venice, as many locals discussed. It was a terrific location and I would certainly consider returning. We did not buy breakfast with our...

Venice is not the cheapest place in Italy to find a hotel. I wanted something within walking distance of everywhere, especially the Arsenale, for the exhibition space, and with a hint of Venetian elegance. I also didn't want to spend more than 70 euros a night in November! I found it...... La Residenza is housed in a beautiful palazzo, on...

I stayed here for 3 nights as it came recommended in the Rick Steve's guide book for Venice. I have to say I was extremely disappointed. First, it really isn't a hotel, it's more of a Bed and Breakfast. Your given a key to the front door and you have to make your way up. There is no attendant after...

thank you for choosing the Hotel La Residenza, we are sorry that your stay at our hotel was not enjoyable, but during the low season and especially when we have few rooms occupied (December and January), the staff is reduced, we don't have the night clerk, but during the day there is always someone. During the day the lights in...

The only good thing was the location but the overwhelming feeling was that we were being overcharged for bad service, very poor breakfast and measured air conditioning. We have never experienced continental breakfast where fresh fruit turns out to be limited amount of tinned fruit cocktail, one croissant and the cheapest brand of cornflakes. We weren't offered more than one...

It was warm in our room and when I asked the clerk how to operate the air conditioning, he not only did not answer my question, he essentially mocked me for wanting it cooler in my room. Yes it was 57° outside, but it certainly wasn't it our room! He was just rude and berating. Won't be coming back to...

I am a frequent visitor to Venice and I only stay in La Residenza . The location is very convenient especially during the Biennale being within walking distance to Arsenale and Giardini It is on a Piano Nobile of a classical Venetian palace. The spacious hall , lobby- cum reception has a certain charm , a touch of splendor yet...

This is a great hotel if you love the aesthetics of old Venice. Breakfast is good, but coffee is not the best and not very strong. Do not really expect free wifi--it doesn't really work. Overall, we loved this hotel and would recommend it.

La Residenza is a fantastic but simple hotel. I have been staing there for over ten years and I always return. It is potless. The people are helpful and friendly. Good price and fantastic location. Only 10 minutes walk to piazza san marco but a world away. I was there for a week with my hsband and five days on...

Well preserved palazzo on a quiet courtyard in Castello. Two minute walk to the Grand Canal. Original main rooms but renovated guest rooms. Two star designation but much better than expected. Good sized rooms, well appointed bathrooms, a/c etc. Decor is faux 18th century Venetian but you are in Venice 😄Family operated and helpful staff. Fine for a three day...

A reasonably priced central hotel with spacious, very clean and comfortable rooms. A lot of value for the money. The hotel is close to San Marco square and close by to lovely restaurants and shops. The staff were friendly and the decor of the reception and eating area were very "Venetian" which gave a lovely atmosphere for our stay in...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
