After a booking mishap with our original hotel, we were ushered to stay at Hotel Paganelli by the other hotel's management. We stayed at a lagoon view room the first night and a normal room the second night.
The place was clean and offered modern...More
My group that stayed here had 4 rooms. Two rooms in the main building and two rooms in the secondary building where breakfast was served. Since we had four rooms I can comment on multiple part of the hotel. For a quieter stay, stay in...More
The Paganelli is situated in the St Marco area, overlooking the St Marco basin at the southern entrance of the Grand Canal. It is right opposite to the S. Zaccaria waterbus stop, which is on the Alilaguna blue route direct to and from the airport....More
Our experience in this hotel was terrific. We flew in to VCE and took the water transportation (Alilaguna Blue Line) to the San Zaccaria stop which is mere steps from the lobby. Reception was quick and effortless and we were exploring the sights in no...More
The room was in the annex, but the website doesn't indicate that this is not on the Grand Canal, so we didn't get that view we were expecting. The room was very small, even for Italy standards. It was quite expensive, but not really that...More

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a
strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

The sole purpose of this hotel is the cost and location. Breakfast included is really good. clean small rooms. the courtyard view is into a small courtyard. any view other than that is good but why would you be in the room? the restaurants close early but the hotel desk person can tell you where there are restaurants open late very close to the hotel. only about 3 English speaking channels on tv. news.... Venice is not about your room.
