The hotel is nothing fancy. Ticks all the basic boxes for a stay, The economy room was small with a small bathroom. No frills in the room. The real strength of this place was the location. Its a 5 minute walk from St Mark's square and the various forms of water transportation from there. Some nice bars and restaurants around... More

Just back from a wonderful time staying at Hotel Orion, a minute or two from St Mark's Square. Breakfast was simple fare, keeping us comfortable until lunch. Wish I'd taken a picture of the room we were in - it was lovely and cool (thanks to the air-conditioning). A good size, clean, comfortable, classically decorated, wood beams(no 46), very quiet... Great little hotel in the heart of Venice. The location was 10 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco and about 15 minutes from Rialto. We were greeted by Stephano at check-in, he was friendly and helpful with tips and a map to navigate Venice as its easy to get lost. GPS wasn't always accurate with all the little alleyways, so... We (family of four, kids 12 n 13) visited Venice for some days and stayed at hotel Orion. It's a nice small hotel in a perfect location. Rooms were clean and cosy. Wifi fast. Airco ok. Some noise in the evening and night from the streets. Great breakfast. Very friendly personel, awesome service.

Steps away from St. Mark's Square, nice clean hotel, room is decent size, ours has view of St. Mark's Basilica dome, bathroom finish appears newly renovated, breakfast choices is good. Hand in paper of hotel rules preventing customers bringing/eating food in room is a bit assaulting and against common practice in any hotel. You can certainly ask customer to clean... More

Very authentic building. We found the staff very friendly and accommodating; from the receptionist to the "breakfast staff". The location is excellent, right in the center, and not that hard to reach, once you figure out how to navigate on the channels with public transportation. We didn't have to walk very far to find excellent dinning places. The room had... More

A good place to stay near Piazza San Marco and Rialto bridge. A nice and clean hotel. The rooms are a little bit small but very comfortable. Good breakfast. It was very easy to find. Unfortunately there are no lifts but the staff helped us with our luggage. I recommend this hotel in Venice.

Check in was relatively easy, at first they said the room might not of been ready luckily it was, it was so hot outside couldnt wait to put the luggage away. We were in room 43, stairs were a bit of a killer especially in the heat. Room was great size, aircon and tv and comfy bed. View was amazing.... More

We booked this with low expectations because it was so cheap but were actually very surprised how nice it was! The hotel was full so we had an apartment 2 doors up which was even nicer than the hotel rooms and very spacious. The staff were very friendly and polite and kept the rooms clean and tidy daily. The hotel,... More

Hotel is in an excellent location, close to all major attractions and in the heart of shopping and restaurants. All the staff are very friendly and helpful with anything you need. The rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was simple yet plentiful; had all the basics plus lovely pastries and was served in a cute little dining room.... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
