Hotel Canada is a good budget find if your expectations are modest. The biggest draw of the hotel is its superb location close to Piazza San Marco and Rialto. Additionally, the hotel is surrounded by restaurants and fabulous gelaterie and there is an inexpensive supermarket only steps away. The hotel’s twenty or so rooms are arranged over two floors. Some...

The Canada Hotel is a small hotel that seems to cater mostly to Europeans. The location is fabulous - on a small plaza minures away from St Marks & the Rialto Bridge. Water taxi took us very close to front door - little dragging of luggage. Small cafe right at the front door. Breakfast was more than adequate - and...

Stayed here for one night. No-nonsense staff. Breakfast was nice, not spectacular. Good location, easy to get to San Marco and Rialto (5 minutes or so walk). Not much privacy in rooms since other rooms are very close by. Good if you only want a place to spend the night and are not looking at anything more. Would recommend.

Reviews seemed ok. on this hotel so we stayed there to save on hotel cost. Our friends had to switch rooms because there was mold on the ceiling. Overall feeling was dirty and the breakfast seemed stale.

Clerk says they don't have website . They keep track of the room inventory on a handwritten chart. You book via GTA in Turkey. Whoever coined the expression "buyer beware " must have dealt w these guys (GTA). When we arrived, we were told they could not give us 2 rooms. They jammed 4 of us in 1 room by...

I stayed at this hotel with my wife for two nights in mid-December. All the staff we encountered were very pleasant and eager to please, and the room we were given was spacious enough and had a view of a small canal outside (which I had requested when booking). Unlike another reviewer, we had no problems with the bathroom or...

We were a little shocked by the appearance of the hotel outside-it looked very rundown, but we needn't have worried. The room was small but adequate and what we expected for the amount we had paid. It was clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. If we needed anything ie extra pillows, directions etc they were only too...

The only thing positive to say about this hotel is the location, which was excellent. However, everything else was lacking. The tiny room had a shower without an enclosure so that you basically have a shower spraying you as you stand crowded against the toilet. The room was very hot, with no air-conditioning. The walls were thin and the doors...

Stayed here July 2004. We thought this hotel was a great find. The location was fantastic, next to Realto Bridge and not far from St Marks Square. There were lots of restaurants close by and a bar right next to the hotel. The hotel itself was basic, but very clean and all we needed as we were out exploring most...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
