A two minutes walk from the station and all public transport. Buy a "water bus" ticket for the period of your visit. You can jump on and off the "buses" and see part of Venice difficult to access. The hotel is fine, ideally placed. All we could find to moan about was the breakfast choice - no cheese, eggs or...

The Stella Alpina Edelweiss is very close to the railway station so you don't have to drag your luggage halfway to St. Marks. I thought that the room was a good size and the beds were great. Breakfast was good and well stocked. It is in the first little calle to the left of the RR station so don't walk...

The hotel is in a very narrow lane next to the station. We missed it the first time. Everything is within walking distance, and a 24H boat ticket with a nice map is a convenient way to move around in Venice, Murano and Burano. One of those boat routes takes you past the Venezia harbour, where you can often see...

We booked this hotel for one night only prior to taking a cruise. I guess for a 2 star hotel its ok but I found the young girl at reception not pleasant. We had a room with an ensuite and there was mould all over the shower, the hairdryer did not work. the lights above the mirror were held together...

Stayed in three different 2-star hotels on recent trip to Italy, and this was by far the best. Friendly and personal service. Excellent, bountiful breakfast which we took out to the peaceful, shaded garden...surely the most tranquil spot in Venice! Our large twin room was upstairs on the front but was quiet. Some rooms on ground level overlook garden. Loved...

My husband and I stayed here three days prior to a cruise and returned for one night following it. We couldn't have been happier. The staff was very helpful and friendly. On both occasions having arrived earlier than check-in they stored our luggage in a locked room as others have mentioned. The first time we could have taken a twin...

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and were very happy about our choice. Hotel has excelent location. It is located very near to the train station (about 200m), but we didn't hear trains at all. We had room on the first floor with windows to garden. It was very quiet there and we didn't hear our neighbours. The...

It is a very lovely hotel, great location, next to the one and only train station in venice island. The reception service is nice. I stay there for 2 nights. On the morning i left to take 6am train, they packed breakfast for me to take away. It is warm, and cute, and lovely hotel, must stay.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
