I stayed at the Locanda San Barnaba From 21-23 May. The staff was helpful and friendly, the room was very nice and the location was good. There were a couple of nice little squares with some good restaurants that were off the beaten path. The hotel was also fairly close to San Maro's square and other of Venice's top sights...

OK, maybe not perfect - but close to it. Firstly, it's on a pretty little canal off the grand canal in Dorsoduro; water door with barber shop posts, everything as you would want it. Secondly, it has a charming little terrace for breakfast. Thirdly, our room had an 18th century fresco and two little balconies - his and hers -...

This was a wonderful hotel with great service from Roberto who heads up the desk and Cecillia our breakfast server. The hotel has large rooms, immaculately clean and kept up, great bathroom, and location overlooking courtyard. The service here is completely superb. Roberto carries your bags upstairs. There is a rooftop area for sitting. The breakfast in the courtyard is...

We stayed at the Locanda San Barnaba for 5 nights in May and enjoyed it very much. The palazzo is in a very good location in the Dorsoduro area, just near the Ca' Rezzonica vaporetto (water bus) stop on the Grand Canal, which gives you access to all the famous sights of Venice. Alternatively, if you want to walk, it...

This was our second visit to this charming and historic palazzo. The location in the Dorsoduro area is excellent and the hotel easy to find just a couple of minutes from the Ca' Rezzonica vaparetto stop. The area is full of locals and students and feels residential and away from the tourist hot spots although there is lots to see...

Our most recent stay at Locanda San Barnaba was our fourth in ten years. This seven day trip was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Past stays have been with two "tween-aged" daughters (four nights); a 40th birthday celebration with a sister (five nights); and a three night stay that was part of an Italy tour. Notable updates since our...

Just returned from Venice and totally enjoyed our stay at Locanda San Barnaba. Its location is, in my opinion, excellent - to arrive via vaporetto, it is directly on the alley accessed from the Ca' Rezzonica stop. Also, it's in a neat neighborhood (just off a piazzetta with 'real' stores, small restaurants, etc.) and has access to either Accademia area...

This was our second visit to the Locanda San Barnaba. Campo San Barnaba is a short walk from the hotel and there are very good restaurants in and around the Campo, and the hotel is just steps away from the Ca'Rezzonico vaporetto dock. It is centrally located but quiet and peaceful. The rooms are Venitian in style, the desk personell...

The Locanda is in a former palace and still in the hands of the original owner. The Venetian style is there, plus comfort, a good breakfast and warm hospitality. It's located in an interesting neighborhood and just a five-minute walk to the vaporetto stop.

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Experience a warm welcome in a 16th century Palace, where the enchantment and magic of Venice are complemented by the modern conveniences required by even the most exacting clientele. An architecturally sensitive restoration has brought back to life serene splendor of the era of which this building is an admirable example. Each of the fourteen rooms has a story to tell: the lover's nest, the philosopher's refuge, the artist' s studio, the playwright' s chamber, where echoes of his muse still linger. The "Locanda San Barnaba" is located in the center of the city, between Accademia Gallery, Piazza San Marco and Rialto Bridge, easy to reach from Piazzale Roma or "Santa Lucia" Railway Station by Vaporetto n° 1 (Ca' Rezzonico Stop). ... more   less
