I had a great experience at Locanda Silva but I can see why this place would be hit or miss. First off, you can choose whether you want toilet/shower in your room or not. We had a toilet but no shower-- the shower was down the hall sort of in a closet, but it was perfectly fine. Keep in mind...

I got a single room w/o a bath to save some money. Was worried this might be a hassle, but it turned out not to be a problem, as the toilet and shower (separate) were just down the hall and I never had to wait more than a minute. Plus, the room had its own sink. The room was on...

About a 5 min walk from the St. Marks Square. The room we reserved was taken so we got bumped to a better room free of charge.; however, while moving our luggage from one room to another the housekeeper TOTALLY broke our luggage - we complained to the owner and they gave us the monetary value of the luggage so...

We paid 85 euro for a double with no bathroom, but were u[pgraded for no extra charge for a room including a bathroom, which was much appreciated. The hotel is painted in pretty colors, is airy and has fresh flowers. The location is divine, with a view of a canal and just a short distance to San Marco. The woman...

This is beautifully located next to a canal, between Rialto and St Mark's. The staff was great and friendly. Our private double room was okay and for the price (50 euros a night) it was well worth it. There's free breakfast as well. We enjoyed our stay in Venice tremendously. What a beautiful city!

I've now stayed here twice and I'll keep coming back. I found this affordable for Venice. The hotel is in a great location: just round the corner from San Marco; within walking distance of the San Zaccharia stop. It's on a quiet, pretty little street. A Suve supermarket is just a few streets away, not to mention the great Crazy...

The Locanda Silva is in a great location in Venice, once you can find it that is! The hotel itself was fairly run-down and the breakfast was your standard toast and corn flakes. I felt the staff were not exceptionally happy about their jobs, they definitely could have been more accomodating. Despite all this however, if you are looking for...

Hotel Locanda Silva is very hard to find from the information provided by the hotel however once you find it of course it is a little easier. On arrival dont try and find it walking because you never will. Its a 40 min walk from the main train station when the shops are open and about a 25 min fast...

We stayed two nights in a triple room. The hotel is a little difficult to find, otherwise the location is excellent. The staff were friendly and informative. Breakfast was very good and our room was clean. I would stay here if I ever visit Venice again.

I have been staying at this locanda since 1980. Though the price of the room went up quite a bit since my last time in 1998: 120 Euros ($180 instead of the $60 I used to pay then), the Locanda Silva hasn't changed a bit. Simple rooms, great location just behind Piazza San Marco, and very friendly staff (well at...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
