Generator Venice stands on the waterfront of the island of Giudecca, one shortstop on the Vapporetto from Piazza San Marco. Our Venice hotel was originally a warehouse, so the building blends history and character with contemporary design features. Inside the hotel, you’ll find luxurious mosaic floors, a glass chandelier, and an imposing stone fireplace. Public spaces are subtly split into intimate and open-plan areas – all surrounding the bar and cafe. Every room has a view of either the gardens, Lido, Grande Canal, or the iconic San Marco. Not bad, eh? -- Please note that due to the global pandemic, some venues, amenities, and services may have been eliminated or scaled down for the safety of our guests and staff. Please contact the hotel should you have any questions or concerns.

Generator Venice offers a contrasting experience where the bustling social atmosphere is appreciated by some guests, yet others find the noise disruptive. While the rooms are criticized for being tight and lacking essentials, the cleanliness of the hotel is widely praised. Opinions on amenities are split, with special commendations for social spaces and views but frustrations over additional charges and insufficient conveniences. Service quality is inconsistent, with instances of both commendable and disappointing interactions. The hotel's location is a highlight, offering peaceful surroundings and scenic views along with convenient access to Venice's main attractions.

I really enjoyed my stay there but most importantly I felt safe because of the hostels precautions against Covid-19. I was in an 7 bed room and they only let 4 people stay in there to make sure there is 1.5 meters space inbetween each bed.
The Location is great and the hostel looks very nice from the inside. I LOVE the tables in front of the hostel where you can enjoy a drink and watch the sunset.

Originally booked to visit Venice in April but had to postpone due to an obvious reason. General Manager, Davide has been great in keeping in touch from April until October, making me felt at ease.

I stayed at Generator London before so kind off knowing what to expect. But I have enjoyed my stay at Generator Venice so much so that I even extended it. The room that I stayed in has an amazing view of the main island with Santa Maria della Salute, San Marco Piazza and the snow capped Dolomites on the skyline.

In terms of facilities, there’s charger socket, reading light in every bed head. (I remember they didn’t have that in London last time I was there so I was very pleased this time!). Vending machine for amenities etc. If you forgot anything, there is a tabac nearby which serve the local community, so can get most things in there too. The bed was comfy. The room was warm. The en suite was clean. The coffee in the morning was great. The Spritz in the evening was a great deal and the pizza yummy too! Great value I thought... and was a stay worth waiting for!

In terms of location, it’s on Giudecca island. It was my first trip to Venice so I wasn’t sure if there’re disadvantage of not staying on the main island. Basically there is none. In fact by staying at Generator Venice on Giudecca island, one got the best view of the main island. The water bus, vaporetto is very reliable and there is a stop just almost outside of Generator Venice. I bought a 7 days rider ticket and hop on and hop off the vaporetto around Venice (including going to Burano, Murano and on the bus in Lido).

Staffs here were all very helpful, friendly and courteous. I enjoyed my interaction with them. They explained to me three different kind of Spritz that they have and it’s this kind of small gesture or sharing that makes all the different to my stay. I recommend Generator Venice as I have had a wonderful stay here during my time in Venice.
Thank you! 😃👍🏻

Stayed with friends in Generator Venice and although the staff was very nice and the beds were just fine, we had a huge issue with the bathrooms, as Every single toilet on our floor didn’t have a working lock, and one of the toilets was blocked and it didn’t seem like anyone was going to fix it. Also, the rooms have no space at all for you to move, so it’s very hard when everyone is trying to get ready and take things out of their lockers (we constantly bumped into each other, the space was very minimal). It is a bit disappointing that all our other hostels were cheaper and had much better toilet facilities

I never usually feel the need to write such a negative review but I had booked this hostel after seeing such positive reviews online about it and upon arrival was instantly taken aback. Check-in staff seemed disinterested and made us feel like burdens for asking very simple questions. When entering the room, one of our cards did not work and the rooms are laughable. Zero Air-con and no mosquito nets/ bug nets on windows so in order to avoid sweating all night windows must be opened fully at the expense of being bitten over 30 times by mosquitoes. The mens toilet had no working like in one cubicle and the showers were adequate although severely lacking in privacy. The beds had no shelves and had gaps in, leaving room for items to fall down in the night. On our second night we decided to go to the bar to experience “Happy Hour” which consists of a beer costing €3.50 and a small (small!) wine being €2.50. The barman was slow and throughout the night got more and more drunk to the point that it took 25 minutes from buying a drink to paying for it because he was too busy chatting and drinking his own drinks behind the bar. There was no activities for residents and when asking for food recommendations, the staff might as well have laughed in our faces with how unhelpful they were. The only positive I have for this hostel is the location, although you will spend lots of money on the Vaporetto going to and from the island (which is why most of the time we didn’t pay.) Overall, if you are looking for an unfriendly, expensive and inadequately resourced hostel, then this is the one for you! (P.S you can get aperol spritz a lot cheaper on the island if you know where to look!)

We have stayed in other hostels and never had an experience like this. Absolutely horrible experience at this hostel, we stayed for 4 nights and only because we could not get our money back to stay somewhere else.

The bathrooms are dirty and mouldy and the shower doors do not shut properly so you can see through them. Also the toilet doors don’t lock!! When I asked reception about this they told me they know and we cannot use a different toilet. The toilets were also left in a horrible state and there was no room to get changed in them. The sink was also dirty and made us not want to use it.

The rooms are boiling hot and we stayed in July, they had AC but it didn’t work well. The lights in the bedroom also don’t turn on and off easily and we had to ask reception to do it.

We stayed in a 13 bed mixed dorm the beds are so close together there is no room for moving luggage. There is no place to hang towels or put shoes so everything gets in the way.

The staff have been rude and unhelpful during our stay.
There are also no towels (we had our own so was not an issue but something to keep in mind)

The location of the hostel is also an issue as you have to get a boat to the island which costs €7.50 for a single trip. This gets very expensive and something to keep in mind when booking. It would be better to add up the costs of public transport expenses and find somewhere more decent to stay.

We had good expectations for this hostel based on reviews and photos but unfortunately the reality was nothing compared to this, it made for an expensive and disappointing stay in Venice.

This hostel has a great location on guidecca island with beautiful views of Venice and a calm quiet neighborhood atmosphere. However, be sure you are aware of actv tickets and buy a 3-day pass or 7-day pass depending how long you plan to stay so you don’t end up spending 10 € every time you leave the island. The staff here was not very pleasant and didn’t make me feel welcome at all. They were sometimes unwilling to help me at all. The shared dorms had AC units but they didn’t circulate through the room because you’re packed in there like sardines! we would all wake up in puddles of sweat in the middle of the night it was so hot! I got very sick towards the end of my trip and the staff was so terrible they wouldn’t bring a drink up to my room bc “they didn’t know how they would get paid for something like that”. They only care about money and will charge you every chance they get!

The location of this hostel is inconvenient. You need to take the waterbus to get over to the main island, which is confusing to understand initially and not the cheapest.

But the location is beautiful, walking out to the view of the main island was always breathtaking. The hostel itself felt like a hotel. Very nice rooms, nice common area (with bar) to meet other fellow travelers. Nice staff.

Wifi was extremely poor up in my room, which was on the top floor.

The location is great and just a short water bus away from the main island, however, be aware water bus tickets aren’t cheap. The hostel and its roomed are well layer out and decorated. The drawers for luggage under the bed work well. There is not enough bathrooms for people here! Bathrooms are clearly not regularly cleaned as well.

Spent my new year weekend in Venice and stayed at Generator for 2nights and really enjoyed my stay. Staff was very helpful and vending machines have everything you need from shampoo to body lotion. Locker downstairs was great for storing my passport for the duration of my stay. You will need to take waterbus to get on Giudecca Island (7.50e one way) so it's better to get unlimited Actv public transport pass! I paid £30 for 48hr unlimited transport and it was well worth it.

Rooms have bunks that are very close together but are within cubicles for privacy. Canal views. Incredible lobby space with cool staff, very clean with relatively large bathrooms. Bear in mind that it is across from the main island, and you will have to take a vaporetto there, which can occasionally be confusing. Overall a wonderful hostel—pretty dang boujee with great vibes. Felt like a hotel but with bunks.

I didn't eat at the hostel during my time there, but there's a bar located just a few doors down called Bar da Monica where I had an espresso and a panini for lunch for about 5 euros. Prices on Giudecca (the island the hostel is on) are cheaper than near the touristy spots (such as Piazza San Marco), but if you venture into Dorsoduro or other more local areas in Venice, you'll find better prices. You can get a spritz for 4 euros in a lot of places.

Well you have to get a vaporetto but not sure which one. There are many vaporetto just in front of the station. They will know. The question is buy one ticket €7.50 or get a 24 hour one for €20. Enjoy. Lucky you.
