Locanda Casa Querini was not our first choice when we searched for a pre-cruise hotel. However, their fast response to our inquiries changed our mind and we booked two rooms for two nights. This was a very good decision! The rooms, the tiny breakfast nook, the square is as shown in the photos. Entering the small square feels like closing...

Loved this place! We took the water bus to the San Zaccaria stop and walked to Locanda Casa Querini. The water bus was packed, the streets were bustling, but when we turned the corner to the little hidden square ( Campo San Giovanni Novo) suddenly everything was quiet . Everyone at Locanda Querini was helpful , warm and friendly. There...

Very friendly and accommodating hosts. Clean, quiet rooms and plentiful breakfast. Excellent location; five minute walk to St. Mark's Square and Grand Canal. Enjoyed our brief stay. Tre Leoni restaurant near by was very good.

Gorgeous little find a little bit off the beaten track. Fab location, off San Zaccaria and away from the tourist hub in a little square. Lovely people who ran it. Arranged prosecco for hubby for his birthday, lovely breakfast, wifi and gorgeous Venetian rooms. We had a room with a view overlooking the square, would definitely recommend. If you want...

This is more of a B&B than a hotel but a lovely building, with excellent rooms, and in a perfect location (a stone throw away from St Marks sq). Breakfast is basic but could not complain. The room was large and very clean. Would stay there again.

We stayed here for 5 days, waiting for friends to join us. This hotel is small, friendly and located on a very quiet square only minutes from St Mark's. Easy to find -- even the first time! Staff was always friendly and ready to help. Thank you for a very pleasant visit -- you helped make it enjoyable.

This place was a recommendation from our Rick Steves guidebook and it did not disappoint! The helpful staff and beautiful rooms were great as was the very convenient location. It's in a quiet square but once you've gotten your bearings navigating around isn't too difficult.

The location of this hotel is very central...close to the water taxi stop, walking distance from st.mark square. The owners are very nice and friendly . We could walk thru entire Venice from here and enjoyed every bit of our stay. Much recommended.

This hotel was perfectly situated for our three days in Venice. It is located in a very quiet piazza, but less than ten minutes from St. Mark's Square - and even less to the vaporetto stop. In addition we enjoyed the friendliness and helpfulness of staff, a good breakfast, and a room that was clean, spacious and very nicely furnished....

I booked this hotel because the reviews were good but mostly because it was described as easy to find, and a lot of hotels in Venice are not. It is literally 10 minutes from the San Zaccaria vaparetto stop, which is about a 5 minute walk to St. Mark's square. We arrived in the late afternoon and found the hotel...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
