I went to Italy on my own couple of months ago, spent 2 days in Venice. The staff sent me an email few days before my arrival. She sent me a map, etc. Made me feel very welcomed! It was a bit cold at night, the staff brought me extra blanket & explained few things to keep warm, I.e. Keep...

A little late in submitting this review but better late than never. My fiancé chose Venice (IUAV) to complete a portion of her Architecture degree abroad and we wanted somewhere to stay for a few nights to get our bearings in the city and explore the rental market for the 5 months she would be a student in Venice. The...

Just getting to reviews after my Oct 14 arrival. We arrived by vaparetto to the academia stop in the pouring rain. Walking would have been quicker but it was raining so hard. Not a long walk from stop but very off the beaten path. A little hard to find but that may have been due to rain. We were met...

I stayed here for two nights, a little tricky to find at first but I've never been to Venice before, so I had to get used to the labyrinthine streets! The guesthouse is in close proximity of the train station/bus station, restaurants and bars. There are lots of little shops nearby for souvenirs, food and drinks. The room was clean,...

Great Location in a nice quarter of venice with not to much tourists, very clean and comfort rooms, good price. I had all that I Need and could ask somebody for any questions. The city map and the restaurant tipps in my room were very helpful.

The guest house is in a great (quiet) location for all the sites in Venice along with plenty of dining options! It is a quick walk from bus and train station too. Maria provides a nice breakfast and we had to leave early on our departure day and she had some sandwiches for us to take left in our room!!...

I love being in Dorsoduro, near Piazza Santa Margherita. It's a nice quiet location, but close to everything. The Piazza alone is loaded with places to eat and drink. The guesthouse is clean and friendly, with comfortable beds. The air conditioning is particularly welcome on hot summer nights.

Santa Margherita Guest House is a small, no frills, but friendly family-run establishment in the Dorsoduro area of Venice. As the description states, there is no reception, you will not be greeted when you arrive, although all e-communications with the owner, Maria, were super-friendly, and I would have loved to meet her in person. You'll be sent instructions on how...

This was the perfection type of place that I was looking to stay for my solo travels! It was close to plenty of places to eat and drink, but far enough away from the larger tourist attractions to be reasonably priced. If you don't mind walking, you could easily walk to the larger touristy places (San Marco).

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
