We had a great room, overlooking a canal and just by a small bridge. Our room was a corner one so we had views out both sides. Very ornate room, smallish but typical European. Staff very friendly and helpful and the food was ok. We had breakfast there which was a little chaotic at times but as it was quite...

Honestly, my wife and I were very happy to stay in this hotel. It is very close to many of the sights in Venice and they were very respectful of their clients. That being said, we had not been in contact with the staff that much because we were always out somewhere. Property was spotless and had a wonderful vibe....

I did not know what to expect after perusing the reviews in here. What we was a wonderful, helpful staff, very good accommodations and a powerful shower. The room was beautiful - overlooking the canal, the location of the hotel is just superb and the service was second to none. Not only would we recommend this hotel to anyone but...

Without doubt this was the most disgusting property we have ever stayed at. The room was the smallest size imaginable with the bed being required to fit so close to the door you needed to turn side on to enter, We had paid for their advertised room with a canal view however this view was seen through a tiny sized...

This place is a mixed bag. The locations is amazing, the price is great, the breakfast is good however the standard room has a lot to be desired. The mosquitos are an added bonus. We had a look at superior suite and it is great. My husband lost his glasses and staff went out of their way to find them....

If you’re not fussed about luxury and just want a central hotel in Venice, that’s clean & affordable then this is a perfectly good option. A good 3*. Having read some of the reviews on here detailing issues with cleanliness and the attitude of the staff, I was slightly apprehensive ahead of our stay; however, I needn’t have been as...

I did not know what to expect as I read some poor reviews of the Hotel Royal San Marco. I upgraded to a Jr Suite. Room was large, quiet and very comfortable. The only thing it was lacking was some dishes and wine glasses in the kitchen. The staff took care of those needs and all other needs during our...

I expected a lot more for how much money we paid. The room was DISGUSTING. It was as if they had never cleaned next to the bed. The room was so small it was laughable. The walls were gross in the room as well as the bathroom. We were eaten alive by mosquitos at night, which was strange because it's...

This hotel was nice enough for one night, terrible receptionist & great location. We had booked two rooms with this hotel and on arrival was told we had been upgraded to a two bedroom suite. The porter took us to another building and up a dark alley to the entrance of the 'suites' the suite was a nice enough. It...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
