The positives: great location, historic building with lots of character, very helpful service from front desk personnel, free internet access, nice bathroom The negatives: uncomfortable beds, below average breakfast, computer system issue that affected our reservation (they lost our reservation for the first night of our stay, and had to put us in a nearby hotel. They handled the transferring...

We arrived in Venice for Carnivale and had an amazing time. The hotel was perfect for our trip. It is in a fantastic location - for both San Marco and Rialto Bridge as well as easy access to the water boats. The room (for 4) was very spacious and clean. The staff in the hotel were always friendly and helpful....

We stayed in this hotel over the New Year period and were a little dissapointed at the standards. Although it's only a few minutes walk from the main attractions it's in a nice quiet area. Be careful of the annexe in this hotel as it appears to be the top 2 floors of a private block of flats and the...

Planned trip for 8 months. Chose Palazzo Priuli after reading very good reviews. Checked with them 6 weeks prior to arrival and again 3 days prior to arrival and was assured we would be in a twin room in main hotel - not annex. Advised them I was disabled (and elderly) and again was assured "main building - ground or...

One of the best places I have stayed at. We got a great deal through a website which made it unbelievable value, especially for venice. The hotel has a great atmosphere. It really makes Venice extra-special when you can stay at a quality place like this hotel. A general tip for Venice - wherever you stay don't skimp on the...

Hotel is excellently located overlooking a canal and a short distance to St Marks etc. Stayed in a deluxe canal side room that was well appointed, very quiet at night and cool thanks to the A/C. The staff are pleasant and efficient. Took my wife here for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and we both had a wonderful time. The weather...

We wanted accommodation that was truly Venetian and Palazzo Priuli fitted the bill perfectly. Our room had a high timbered ceiling, rich drapery, very generous bathroom and windows that overlooked the canal and passing gondalas. The breakfast room was spacious and breakfast quality excellent. It's true that the staff aren't effervescent but they were genuinely helpful when requested and assisted...

We really enjoyed our stay, we thought the location was great and the room was very comfortable. We got a kick out of the crooked steps, but that added to the charm of the place. The staff was very helpful, my husband had a problem with a bank card and the staff at the hotel was extremely helpful and knowledgeable....

Near to Piazza San Marco and still in a quiet area, this is a splendid hotel! We were upgraded to a suite on arrival and given free drinks; for less than £100 pr night this is an unbelievalbe find.

I really liked this former palace of a renowned Venetian family. This is a hotel for those who want to stay in an almost immediate vicinity of San Marco, but don't like the bustling tourist crowds. It is a VERY quiet place indeed - inside and outside and it is not overloaden with fake artefacts like many other hotels of...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
