The hostel is very lovely and centrally located. We were given fresh towels every day and soap so it was a bit of an upgrade from other hostels. We were in a 4-bed dorm with its own ensuite - quite luxurious. I travelled with medication that needed to be stored in the fridge and it was about 10 degrees in...

The hostel is pretty much a couple of ex-apartments in a building next to a hotel. We stayed in a dorm where the bathroom had no lock on the door. Also there was only one door key between the five of us and the curfew was 1am to get into the building. Also, two of the beds in the hostel...

This was the cheapest hostel we found and was very adequate. Our room, although small, was clean and the bathroom very big. The room could be improved by having a safe in it, especially as the 'safe' downstairs is simply just the cubby hole for your room key. The location was great: quick walk from the train station and piazzale...

Although we booked a room through Alloggi Gerotto Calderan, the room itself was in San Geremia rooms building. We were on the fourth floor with no elevator, but the room was clean and even had a small balcony. Within walking distance to the train station and easy to find. Will stay here again if I ever find myself in Venice...

Perfect location. Friendly staff. Very clean bathroom! Reasonable rate with discount coupons offered at a restaurant next door. This made my latest visit to Italy much better than the last. I definitely reccommend this hotel to solo travellers.

The room was very small, but functional. Everything was very clean, including the bathroom. A bit weird was that you shall not come home after 1 am, but honestly we didn't really need it. the area was nice but it is not directly in the center, so expect some walking.

I stayed in this hostel for 4 nights and I was satisfied with what I got for the price I paid. The one key per room was strange but you get used to it and there is no kitchen facilities, those would be my only complaints, on the other hand, the bed was made for me every day which i...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
