Me and my sister visited Venice in January 2013 (chilly!) staying at the Lisbona. The hotel is a little hidden gem! And when I say hidden, I mean hidden. It may be because we couldnt navigate our way out of a paper bag but it took us over 2 hours to find the hotel after getting off the bus (with...

Hotel Lisbona was relatively easy to find, even though it was hailing at that time (yes in March!). It is where branded good shops like MiuMiu is at one end of the bridge and Hotel Lisbona is just across the bridge. When we entered the hotel, the manager looked rather stern but it was fine. We got our key and...

We stayed here mid-May, and were very pleased. As others have mentioned, it is a small room (and bathroom), but who really stays in their room on a trip? The balcony we had was a-mazing. Right on the canal where you can watch the gondolas and hear the gondoliers singing - it was breathtaking!!! We stood out there for a...

The hotel was well located but had extremely small rooms and bathrooms. As forewarned I avoided the free trip to Murano that was offered by one of the hotel receptionists. I must say that if we were to check out early and place the luggage in their care , you will find that it s left just in the hotel...

We would like to reassure the guest that at no time is the reception area unattended, as it may have seemed, as there is video surveillance installed which allows the staff to observe the area of the reception desk, as well as covering the area of the lobby where luggage is temporarily stored upon check-out. On a lighter note, we...

I'm surprised at the good reviews of this hotel. It is in a good location, but location isn't everything. The hotel itself is a great disappointment. From the moment that I walked into the hotel lobby, I knew that this place was a mistake. The first thing that the receptionist said was that there was a problem with our reservation....

Hotel_Lisbona_Venice, Manager at Hotel Lisbona, responded to this review

We would like to specify that the "problem" for the reservation in question was that, due to a special request from another elderly guest for a lower floor, the reservation of TThomp5000 was upgraded the second night to a superior room at no extra charge, meaning the guests did have to change rooms, but to a larger room with a...

Great location. Our room on the first floor directly overlooked the canal and we could watch the gondoliers setting off serenading their passengers. The room was small but had charm and was definitely adequate for our three night stay. Breakfast was basic continental; cereal, rolls, cheese and ham but there was plenty. The breakfast room is tiny (only 6 tables)...

Room quite small but very good central location so we really didnt mind. The staff were very freindly and helpful and gave us umbrellas as the weather was awful when we arrived. Would definitely recommend it if you want a reasonably priced hotel with the convenience of being able to walk to all the local attrations.

The location of this hotel is superb - about 5 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco, on a canal where gondoliers congregate. It was comfortable, well equipped, very nice period decor, great breakfasts, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and very reasonable prices. All rooms overlook the canal, and it was great to hear the gondoliers singing (fortunately, they are quiet at...

Stayed in this hotel for our wedding anniversary, and i should say the hotel looks very Venetian and romantic. We booked a superior room with the canal view. We're a bit high from the canal itself (3rd flr) but it doesnt matter as we still can hear the passing Gondolier and gentle waves. Bathroom is adequate in size and the...

We have stayed at this hotel several times and have always rated this as an experience of Venice to add to the magic of the charm of the whole holiday. The hotel is situated alongside a canal adjoining the Grand Canal with a gondola station below your window. Very romantic atmosphere throughout the hotel, decorated in traditional Venetian style. A...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
