Hotel Cà Valleri is situated in the Castelo area of Venice. It is on the opposite side of the city from the train and bus stations. One either walks to there which we did or takes the water-bus to stop Arsenale. It is in a very small alley off the “main” street, just behind a restaurant. From outside it looks...

The hotel is very well located and the price is reasonable considering what you get. Our experience wasn't great though. First, we didn't get the room we reserved because some heating problems. However, we were compensated with a bottle of frizzante. The main issue was that we didn't get hot water for the shower... They said it should work and...

The location is a located in an eerie alley, but located just around the corner of two brilliant restaurants. ABSOLUTELY a worthwhile location to stay in since you get away from the massive tourist crowds, yet no more than a 3 min. walk to the Venice promenade. The room we stayed was beautifully decorated in an 18th century style, with...

The hotel was located down a dark, narrow alley and had no frontage. There was no one at reception. We rang the bell and talked to the manager over the intercom. He buzzed us in and told us our key was on the reception desk. The smell of stagnmant water/boiled eggs in the lobby was overpowering. Our room was opposite...

Room is really nice with an majestic 1800s look and feel. WiFi is super quick!!!! That's one thing that we have not had at all of the hotels we've been to in the past 3 weeks which we really need so that we could upload pictures and videos to our online cloud account. And so I give an A+ to...

This B&B has absolutely amazed us. It's situated in a small alley in Castello area, which looks very authentic and not so crowded with tourists. While booking we asked for the most romantic room, and got the venetian styled and cozy one with queen-looking bad and jacuzzi! (and that's in b&b for only 40 euros per night!) There was no...

This place (like many say) it's not easy to find, however it didn't take us so long either. Staff is nice and very helpful, although they are not resident so sometimes can be a little hard to find somebody. Rooms are proper venitian style, rather small, but it's a proper old building in Venice so you cannot complain. I would...

This was a absolute nightmare, first of all there was no one available on the premises we communicated via an intercom when we got there and then no contact thereafter. The place had a horrible stench (like a rotten drain), it was dirty, they didn't clean our room, bathroom or even make up the bed, there was practically no breakfast...

What a great place this is! A true Venetian style room. Very spacey. Wonderful bed. Hot tub!! Breakfast at the room! All that for a very low price. If I have to name one downside .. it is a bit far from the station. Also navigating around Venice is difficult. So use google maps to find this place.

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
