Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.

Just arrived back from Venice this week. Had a wonderful time with my other half. I found Silk Road via trip advisor and some research and decided to book it as it looked great. Asked if we could get a room for two and 2 nights and found it easy to book. We arrived in venice via

Had a good time in this hostel. The rooms are spacious and mine had a view over the water. The kitchen was small, and there aren't many places to socialise out of your room. It's a little out of the way for a lot of things, but there are vaparetto stops close by and easy access

Silk Road is definitely more of a bed and breakfast than a hostel. However, the price was pretty great, especially seeing as we booked the week of during Carnevale. The location was also nice - it was about 15 minutes from the central areas and about 15/20 minutes from the train

The Silk Road Guesthouse is a smaller hostel; don't expect something massive and flashy, like a Generator. Instead expect to feel personally cared for. The Silk Road feels like a well-kept secret in Venice. It has free breakfast (apples, coffee, toast, croissants, cereal) and

I booked this hostel because it had great reviews. Alex was great, however, our stay was miserable. There were A LOT of mosquitos in our room. I'm not talking about one or two. There were at least 20. All of our windows were shut, and we were forced to spend our night killing

"First floor room have a nice view on the canal and you can take few picture from there (or see the sunshine)"
"Ask for a room facing the river. A bed by the window gives you a great view and the giant cruise ships gliding by are a sight to see."

"Female dorm- great water views!"
"I stayed in the female dorm room, which was very spacious and comfortable."
