My husband booked this hotel with a travel agent for a surprise birthday treat as a 4* hotel after checking in with the most sullen looking receptionist we were taking to a dark warm dismal looking room that faced a 6ft dirty wall we asked to change after looking at 2 more rooms we settled for the last as we...

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. We stayed there in early March, on entering the room we were hit by a surge of heat, the heating was on full, and although I managed to turn it off, the room was still overheated, this meant we had to sleep with the windows open. For a hotel that...

As always, the compromise in Venice is character and charm vs modernity. This hotel is no exception. Loved the location being just behind St Marks but quiet enough. The staff were helpful and recommended restaurants which mostly worked ok although as always, just wandering and self discovery in Venice is a far better outcome. Rooms were basic but characterful. The...

We stayed on the recommendation of a colleague and, to be honest were slightly disappointed. The initial room we were allocated was very small but they did provide a larger room for the rest of the stay. Other downsides were the level of attention by staff (waiter even forgot I had ordered a drink) as well as the "scrum" to...

With its location this hotel is a great choice that will use again. Had booked a canal view which is an experience in itself every morning :) Negative side the hard rock cafe opposite is too loud till late and if you have issues to sleep then it's annoying, I suggest the hotel to do proper sound proofing. Also room...

Great location being on the doorstep of San Marco (St Marks Square), nice and clean room, although dated and small. Allow one and half hours for water bus from Airport. Breakfast was very nice and set us up for the day. Staff were helpful.

Good location just of St.Marks Square.......other than that, probably one of the worst hotels I've stayed in anywhere Staff were very unfriendly and certainly not customer focused and the housekeeping staff were rude and noisy....even at 6am with no consideration for sleeping guests whatsoever. The bar in the hotel was closed so drinks were fetched from a nearby "sister"hotel....although we weren't...

Prices range from very reasonable to very expensive depending on the time of visit. It's not a four star, probably three star. The breakfast was just ok, nothing to complain about, but the dining room is small and very cramped at busy times, with people with luggage and rucksacks, which was off-putting. The room was fine. Reception staff were very...

The room was quite small, floor of the room was uneven, creaky floorboards, pictures didn't match the rooms. Free wi-fi, great breakfast, private access to gondollas. Restaurants, shops surround the hotel. Majority of the staff were friendly including the one who checked us in.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
