Massively overpriced, as are all hotels in the centre of Venice. At least at Liassidi you get value for your money. The hotel breathes an atmosphere of grandeur, a rich history and something you could describe as 'old chique'. If you look closer, you'll notice a lot of 'forgotten places' in dire need of restoration, but all in all the... More

The location of this hotel is fantastic. Close to all the major sites, public transportation and shops and restaurants. The staff was really helpful with all the questions we had. We had a junior suite on 2 floors. The room is nice, but without a view. What we found really strange was the choice of furniture on the ground floor.... More

Good location just off the busy alleys of Venice. Concierge very helpful to arrange concert tickets for us. Barman at the Liassidi bar made the experience worth it. Ask for a canal room as it will be quieter and away from the courtyard chatter and smoke. No smoking in rooms but court yard smoke 'travels' up into the court yard... More

The hotel was nice. Very small room. Breakfast was ok. Nothing great but not bad. We got a little attitude from the young man at the front desk when we asked to call back a restaurant to confirm our reservation because Yelp said it was closed that day. Good quiet location and away from the craziness of San Marcos Square.... More

This is a beautiful palace hotel on a canal within walking distance of Piazza San Marco. Breakfast room faces onto a side canal. Great place to enjoy walking around water Venice. (This is the 2nd time we have stayed)

We stayed here after leaving a cruise ship and found it to be in a perfect position. We got a water taxi and stepped off straight into the Hotel. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Easy walking distance to everything, but quieter and plenty of eating choices within minutes.

We arrived by taxi to this very nice boutique hotel. Not far from the main attractions of Venice. St Marks , Doge Palace , Grand Canal. We loved this place. The front desk was so accommodating. Andrea and Marco were very helpful. The rooms were nice and clean. The entrance with the outdoor room was great to sit and relax... More

A lovely small hotel that offer delicious Manhattens, breakfast, employees and central location that is not in the traffic congested San Marco area! I would stay here again. Very clean and very helpful people to help us through a canal city!

Just gorgeous hotel, no more than 10 minutes from St Mark's Square. We had a suite on the top floor which was lovely and spacious. The decor matched everything you'd expect from a classy Venetian hotel and the view from the room was lovely. Staff were incredibly helpful; nothing was too much trouble. The restaurants they recommended (and booked for... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
