It was a great experience, all I can say is positive. The hotel is located about 300 mt from Piazza San Marco, in the heart of Venice. Check in was quick, my room was on the third floor and there's a good deal of stairs to climb so be young and fit. The room was perfect, it was recently renowed,...

the location was wakable from the San Marco vaparetto stop, but the walk is tough if you've got a lot of luggage. There are no lifts and the hallway to our room had us going up,down and all around. The English speaking staff was great. Friendly and very helpful. The hotel is undergoing necessary repairs. The room size was ample...

Thank you so much for helping to make our trip so enjoyable, we have just returned from Portugal from a wonderful weekend in Venice. The welcome we received after a long and tiring journey, immediately put us at ease. The location was ideal for us, halfway between Rialto and San Marco, made sight seeing and getting lost easy, set on...

This hotel has a good location and at the time we went it had recently been renovated. The room we had was nice and spacious, however lacking any information that is essential for example: fire escape route, breakfast info, how to use the telephone or internet. There was absolutely no information anywhere. Three flights of steps with no help with...

Hotel is located about 5 minutes walk from San Marco square (and the vaporetta stop), which makes it a very nice point to start exploring Venice. We stayed here for 3 nights, our room had a very nice bedroom with a big bed (nice firm mattress, great pillows), living room with a sofa (opens up into a double-sized bed) and...

The hotel is very modest but the service is good. The best think of this hotel is that is located 5 minutes far away to plaza San Marcos and the vaporeto station, so is very easy to move arround once you get familiar with the area, is a little difficult to find the first time due it doesnt have a...

We stayed here for 3 nights, it is more than 2 stars, cleanliness of room was superb. It is just 5 minutes walk from San Marco stop and just behind the San Marco square. It is a small hotel but good. The only disappointment was right at the entrance there are too many stairs to the reception desk, it was...

Mercurio is about 10 mins from the main stops at St Marks Sq for the boats coming from the airport and we found it easy to find with the Fenice Opera house as a nearby landmark and some good directions on the hotel's website.. It is off the beaten track a little but perfect location for seeing Venice. Our Superior...

The Hotel Mercurio is in a very convenient location. If you hire a water taxi, they can take you within 1/2 block. It is a 2 star for sure, but clean and comfortable. The price was reasonable for the location and we would stay there again. The staff is very helpful and the breakfast was a good European selection with...

We stayed in the Santa Croce area last year in a wonderful hotel, but wanted to stay closer to the main attractions in Venice this time. I picked Hotel Mercurio primarily for its location in San Marco and for its reasonable price for a hotel in this highly popular area. We had a little bit of a hard time finding...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
