Hotel is located about 5 minutes walk from San Marco square (and the vaporetta stop), which makes it a very nice point to start exploring Venice. We stayed here for 3 nights, our room had a very nice bedroom with a big bed (nice firm mattress, great pillows), living room with a sofa (opens up into a double-sized bed) and...

The hotel is very modest but the service is good. The best think of this hotel is that is located 5 minutes far away to plaza San Marcos and the vaporeto station, so is very easy to move arround once you get familiar with the area, is a little difficult to find the first time due it doesnt have a...

We stayed here for 3 nights, it is more than 2 stars, cleanliness of room was superb. It is just 5 minutes walk from San Marco stop and just behind the San Marco square. It is a small hotel but good. The only disappointment was right at the entrance there are too many stairs to the reception desk, it was...

Mercurio is about 10 mins from the main stops at St Marks Sq for the boats coming from the airport and we found it easy to find with the Fenice Opera house as a nearby landmark and some good directions on the hotel's website.. It is off the beaten track a little but perfect location for seeing Venice. Our Superior...

The Hotel Mercurio is in a very convenient location. If you hire a water taxi, they can take you within 1/2 block. It is a 2 star for sure, but clean and comfortable. The price was reasonable for the location and we would stay there again. The staff is very helpful and the breakfast was a good European selection with...

We stayed in the Santa Croce area last year in a wonderful hotel, but wanted to stay closer to the main attractions in Venice this time. I picked Hotel Mercurio primarily for its location in San Marco and for its reasonable price for a hotel in this highly popular area. We had a little bit of a hard time finding...

We arrived to find there was no lift and as we were travelling for 4 weeks, our luggage was heavy. The price for the stay was quite expensive, the breakfast was poor and there was no customer service. We were given 'the apartment' to stay in which is under the hotel. Each morning we had to go upstairs to have...

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in July 2011. Excellent service and very nice room, our even had a small balcony overlooking the courtyard. We have travelled around Italy and have concluded that this hotel has the best shower. Yes, there are stairs but the man on the reception helped us with our luggage. Perfect location, not hard...

Overall the rooms and bathrooms are very clean. This hotel is great if u are planning to just stay there for a comfortable sleep and within the day u will be out sight seeing. It seemed to be in a very nice and safe location, very close to Piazza St. Marco which is wonderful during the day and night.

My daughter was staying at this hotel as part of her study abroad program. She became quite ill and I traveled over to Venice to be with her. The staff couldn't have been more compassionate, helpful and accomodating! They went out of their way to provide assistance to us and were hospitable above-and-beyond all expectations. The hotel itself was spotlessly...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
