The staff at the Hotel Mercurio were very friendly! We were very very late getting into Venice (2am), but the front desk person stayed open for us and even came to meet us and guide us back to the hotel, which was very kind! The room was right off the lobby and I was worried that it would be noisy,...

I stayed here a few years ago in a triple room and recently in the canal view suite. The location is great-- you can easily find it by asking anyone where La Fenice theater is. The hotel is down a side street next to it. Both of my stays were great-- helpful staff, good breakfast, painless reservations. I don't think...

I had a single room in the new part of the hotel and it was a lovely little room with my own balcony looking out onto a quiet internal courtyard. The bed was firm and comfortable. A nice big bathroom with shower, bidet, toilet and wash basin. It was very quiet. Lights on all the stairs etc came on automatically...

We found the Hotel Mercurio on Tripadvisor and decided to stay seeing the reviews. We weren't disappointed. The hotel was easy to find even after I missed our stop at St. Marco thinking it was the next one. Our room was comfortable and the shower was hot and had lots of pressure. The hotel is very close to St. Mark's....

We stayed in this hotel for one night on April 13, 2011. The room that we stayed in had a Canal view. The hotel is across the canal from the house that Mozart lived in. The room had two windows with a fireplace in between. It was an outstanding experience to see boats and gondolas passing underneath the window. The...

Spent 5 nights at this Hotel in Oct. 2010 with my wife. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay-good location, large room with balcony over small canal with lots of gondola traffic-good photo ops for my wife. Decent breakfast. Staff, specially Monica very helpful with information on where to go and how to get there. Good quiet sleeping conditions as well. Ron,Windsor,Ont.,...

Location is good: near the main square with access to Accademia section of town. My single room was tiny and the bathroom was in disrepair: leaky sink, tiny shower with cracked tiles and worn, leaky doors. Others traveling with me said their rooms were in good condition and they were happy. The staff was friendly and the breakfast adequate. The...

The hotel was lovely, nice room. We had a triple. No bedbugs as someone else suggested. No bugs to speak of, but I did hear during the summer months that mosquitos were a problem in Venice and other parts of Italy as well. The staff couldn't have been nicer. The breakfast was good and they provided special coffees on request....

The location is excellent but our superior canal view room had mould growing in the bathroom and the unfriendly woman on the front desk refused to fix the hook for the shower which made showering very difficult. Breakfast was pretty dire. Toast crackers wrapped in cellophane, tasteless rolls, tinned fruit and what looked like some form of dairylea cheese wedges....

The hotel is in a great location, in between san marco area and rialto, reasonably easy to find, however as Venice is so small, I now realise it doesn't really matter where you stay. The hotel room was quite large and below was the canal. The staff were ok. The main issue we had with our room was that there...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
