Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district)
with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many
transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying
areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand
for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal
bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution,
2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli
Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby

Location was perfect away from chaos and crowds in quiet neighborhood, but close to good shopping and local food choice. Easy walk to either traghetto, vaporetto's at Ca d Oro or Fondamente Nove. Breakfast had good variety, good coffee and service. Staff was helpful and friendly,

Loved this place. You go down a tiny street turn a corner and then find a small piazza. The entrance to the hotel is through the garden. Yes, a garden in Venice, very nice. The other side of hotel is on a canal and very picturesque. Hotel lobby is quite grand and the rooms s

This was such a great find and we loved staying here during our visit to Venice. Quite a charming boutique hotel with tons of atmosphere. It is a historic building with plenty of character, very clean and updated baths. The staff was helpful, kind and pleasant - so nice to feel w

How does one get from the airport to the hotel? How many floors are there in the hotel and are there elevators? How does one travel from the hotel to the cruise pier?
There are several options on how to travel from airport to this hotel. Either by water taxi, Alilaguna to Fondamente Nove and then an easy walk or by bus to Piazzale Roma en from there on Vaporetto number 1 to Ca D'oro and then a short easy walk. Hotel has a mezzanine floor before you reach the first (top) floor. No elevator but stairs are really not too many and staff helps with luggage!

I don’t know Venice, is this hotel central to restaurants etc
The hotel has a great location, in my opinion. Quiet neighborhood but only a minute or two walk from a main artery with lots of restaurants. Also, very close to a water bus station, for beautiful rides along the Grand Canal and getting to places like St Marks.

how do you get form palazzo abadessa to the docks, we are arriving on a cruises-ship
You could easily walk from the Abadessa to the port, it would take around 20 mins, there are bridges of course along the route, can be tiresome with suitcases. Or you could email the Palazzo and ask if a water taxi could take you straight to the port. The hotel has its own docking.

Does hotel have a lift and/or lifts?
Sadly we did not see any lifts. We were on the first floor which was accessed by a large wide double staircase which was not a difficult climb. I do believe however there may have been some rooms on ground level.
