First of all, we arrive to the beautiful hotel, full of ancient history. Then we are greeted by Jasmine, who's smile sets the tone to be glorious. Next, we get to the room, which is done up to welcome us on our honeymoon. Wow! The breakfasts are breathtaking and all served on white crisp tablecloths. Such a dream come true....

Wonderful location, quiet and peaceful but within easy walking distance of sites and vaporetto stops. Charming hotel with really friendly and helpful staff, a complementary bottle of prosecco was in our room which we took into the lovely garden and enjoyed drinking it in the sunshine.Thankyou Abadessa for making our visit to Venice so enjoyable.

I spent nearly 10 years travelling the world primarily staying in chain hotels. This is nothing of the sort it is a beautiful mansion with staff that were terrific. Each room is decorated appropriate to the time period of the buildings grandeur. We stayed as a family of 5 in one of their larger rooms. One side note it is...

Whether you're new to Venice or a returning visit this is a seriously good location, quiet and access ile but close to all the key visiting attractions. We enjoyed this location immensely. We arrived well after midnguht and the instructions from the airport were excellent. We ferried across from airport with two large suitcases and for 30E had absolutely no...

My husband and I stayed at the Palazzo Abadessa for 4 nights. Our room was nice, the bed was great. We looked out over their beautiful garden which was delightful. The hotel is a short walk to St Mark's and it seemed to everything! Great location. A water taxi delivered us to the front door which was fun but it...

Thanks to the delightful Darwin, who printed out the history of this restored palace, we realize how much has transpired in this beautiful spot. Most recently, this was the home of the Rossi family- a summer home - no less- before it's restoration into a hotel. There are many things that are unique and special about the Abadessa. I have...

Awesome hotel. The service was amazing. We took a private water taxi (cost is 110 euro) from the airport to the dock of the hotel. Door to door service. Since we had two large bags it made sense to do this. Otherwise getting to any hotel in Venice will require going over cobblestones and bridges. The hotel itself was amazing....

We had stayed here for 2 nights in Venice during our honeymoon in Italy. It is a beautiful hotel close to the main sites (San Marco Square, etc), but set away from the crowds in a quiet location. Arriving at the hotel, you first enter a beautiful garden with a small seating area. The reception area was equally pleasing as the...

From the warm welcome, assuring us that this would be our home for 3 days, to the complimentary bottle of prosecco, this place is fantastic! One of the few places in Venice that has an actual strolling garden, we were taken by the beauty of the original stained glass windows and functional antique furniture throughout the property. The breakfasts were...

This is the most great located hotel in Venice. It's somehow elegant yet homey and quirky. The room was spotless and comfortable. We were close enough to walk to every atraction in Venice but in quite side strit. We loved everything about this hotel, Our bedroom was clean, big, and quiet. A generous breakfast was included. The staff was very...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
